November 8: With seven kills in the final match of
her career, senior Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) became
just the fifth player ever at Clarkson to reach 1,000
kills in a career as the Clarkson University Volleyball
team closed out the season with a three-set loss to
Skidmore College, 25-11, 25-19, 25-16, at the Liberty
League Championships. The Golden Knights finished the
season one match over .500 with a record of 21-20, their
second consecutive 20-win season. Lockwood completed her
collegiate career with 1,002 kills, joining Heather Sill
(1409), Stephanie Thornton (1276), Laura Mandell (1129),
and former teammate Claire Horvath (1091). The week has
been an impressive one for Lockwood, as she was selected
as an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American on
Wednesday. Freshman Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY)
tied Lockwood with a team-high seven kills in the match.
Junior Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY) contributed 13
assists and sophomore Amanda Rankin (Horseheads, NY)
added in 10 assists. Sophomore Alison Schroeder
(Webster, NY) tossed in 10 digs and freshman Rachel
Simons (Webster, NY) added in six blocks. Moreover, the
Golden Knights conclused another memorable season with
numerous highlights. Freshman Megan Mahon (Irvine, CA)
set a school mark for kills in a season with 444, Alison
Schroeder moved into second place all-time in digs with
1,536, Jenna Stock surpassed the 2,000-assist mark and
finished the year 2,427. Both Schroeder and Stock are
well within reach of the all-time marks in each
category. Also, MacKenzie Cook (Syracuse, NY) posted 91
blocks, the highest figure by a Clarkson player since
the 2004 season, and Stock produced back-to-back seasons
with at least 50 aces. Finally, Megan Mahon was named
Liberty League Rookie of the Year for the season (the
first Clarkson player given the award since Stephanie
Thornton won in 2002) and also a Liberty League
First-Team All-Star. Jenna Stock was chosen as a Liberty
League Second-Team All-Star. Mahon was also chosen to
the Liberty League All-Tournament team for weekend.
November 7: Coming out fast in the first two sets,
the Clarkson University Volleyball team looked poised to
dominate Liberty League rival St. Lawrence, but the
Golden Knights couldn't keep up the pace and fell in
five sets to their rival, 15-25, 9-25, 25-22, 25-23,
15-11 in the opening round of the Liberty League
Championships at Union College. After dropping a
five-set heartbreaker to St. Lawrence in the
tournament's opening match, the Clarkson University
Volleyball team was asked to come right back against the
top seed in the tournament. Unfortunately, the results
were the same as Clarkson suffered a five-set loss to
Union, 25-15, 20-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13 in the Liberty
League Championships. Freshman Megan Mahon
(Irvine, CA) produced her third consecutive
double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, while senior
Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) scored seven kills.
Sophomore Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) recorded a
game-high 28 digs and Davanna Chetney (Fulton, NY)
chipped in 13 digs. Junior setter Jenna Stock
(Johnstown, NY) joined Mahon with a double-double,
adding 18 assists and 13 digs. Once again, freshman
Megan Mahon (Irvine, CA) posted a double-double with a
team-high 15 kills to go along with 11 digs, while
junior Jessica Brody (Phoenix, AZ) contributed six kills
and five blocks. Junior setter Jenna Stock (Johnstown,
NY) had another solid all-around match with 18 assists,
11 digs and 4 aces. Sophomore Alison Schroeder (Webster,
NY) continued a strong defensive effort with 27 digs,
and freshman Rachel Simons (Webster, NY) had a team-high
six blocks. Senior Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) had five
kills, continuing to inch closer to 1,000 career kills
with 989.
