NATIONAL GIRLS &
WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY (January 26, 2006)
The SUNY Potsdam Bears Athletic Department invites
all area fans to join them in the celebration of the
20th anniversary of “National Girls and Women in
Sports Day” by attending this coming Tuesday’s 6:00
PM women’s basketball contest against SUNYIT at
Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Free admission will be given
to all girls and women wearing their team jersey in
celebration of female participation in sports and
athletics. Bears’ Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tara
Ruckh encourages the local community to come out and
be part of the evening. “Our team is working
especially hard to build our program, and with a
number of local players on our roster, we’re hoping
to have as many young athletes attend as possible to
give us a real home-court advantage.” Following the
game, the Bear players will be available for
autographs and to greet their young fans. As
part of the celebration, several promotions will be
conducted at halftime of the women’s game, including
shooting contests, drawings for prizes, and the
SEACOMM Supershot, giving some lucky fan a chance to
make a half-court shot and win $250. For information
on reserving tickets for the game, please contact
Bill Mitchell, Assistant Athletic Director at

KEEPING TRACK OF
THE ALMA MATER (September 21,
2005)
I am writing this letter to thank anyone who is
involved in the production of this fantastic web
site. It not only gives people who have moved
out of town a place to keep track of their alma
mater, but it also gives us local guys a chance to
view how our school's are doing in all sports. When
I was at Franklin Academy ten or so years ago, this
web site would have been an asset to have so you
could see who and or what team was doing well, so
that you could prepare your team around your next
opponent. I also really enjoy keeping track of
football stats and your web site gives me the
opportunity to see who is doing well. Again thanks
for your time and keep up the good work on your web
site! Casey, Malone
MEMORIES OF HOME:
E-MAIL FROM INDIANA (September 10,
2005)
To NCSN: Left northern New York many years ago. Got
put on to your page and have been hitting every week
since. The pictures of the arenas and playing fields
of Section 10 stir many memories of the times I
played and, in later years, got to see my kids on
those same venues are brought back on NCSN. Hope to
see my grandkids someday as I have several still
Northern NY. Miss the hockey most! Phil in
Indiana.
E-MAIL FROM GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN; AND TRYING OUT
FOR THE N.F.L. (September 8,
2005)
Once again, I wanted to say, KEEP UP THE
GOOD WORK! Being out of state, there are a lot
of ways to get updates on local sports from back
home, but your site is by far the best!
Thanks, Chris LaSalle, De Pere, WI (Green Bay Area),
Formerly Potsdam.

P.S. Shane McCargar says hi too. He lives in
Denmark, Wisconsin. Shane did pretty well at
the NFL combine (tryouts). You get a # rating from
1-10. Eight or better is considered NFL material.
Shane got a 7. They told him that there have been
7's excepted in the NFL before. Shane bench-pressed
225 lbs., 24 times. Since the combine ended, he
talked to several NFL agents. He ended up signing
with John Knuteson out of the Milwaukee area. He got
an offer to play in a European Pro League (Not NFL
Europe) for the Langenfeld Longhorns (Germany). He
also talked with the head coach of the Arkansas
twisters (AFL 2). The coach told him he'd like him
to try out, but since their season was already
halfway through, he'd like him to try next season.
His agent set him up with the team trainer for the
Racine Raiders, a top notch semi pro football team.
With Shane living approx. 130 miles north of Racine,
he knew the Raiders were not an option. He also
received a call from the president of a new league,
the North American Indoor Football League). This is
mostly a Canadian operation. The Team President told
him that they are holding a tryout camp and he'd
like Shane to attend. This league will start
next year. Shane's agent has talked to the Buffalo
Bills, and the Miami Dolphins. Two teams that are
still very close to his former coach at SUNY Canton,
Lou Saban. So that's pretty much where he stands
now. He's staying in shape, and talking to his
agent. Whether anything more comes out of this for
him or not, he is just happy he went though with it
all. He went through the combine and got to train
with many Division 1 athletes. He told me that it
was a wonderful experience that he'll remember for
the rest of his life!
