DOUBLE OVERTIME: MALONE SNIPS RED RAIDERS ON KEY FOUL SHOTS

By Bob LaRue, North Country SportsNet
The Malone Huskies needed two extra periods to triumph past their Class A rivals, the Massena Red Raiders on Tuesday, but snagged a key Central Division win 65-62. The titanic struggle began with the Huskies edging out to a 17-13 lead on home court through the first period. Massena chipped away at the lead, trailing by three at the half, but climbed back even at 40-40 through three periods. The defenses intensified in the fourth quarter allowing just nine points, while both teams missed key shots that could have sealed the victory in regulation. Huskies’ Kelsey Johnson hit four straight free throws in the closing seconds and Malone outscored Massena 10-7 in the second overtime to seal the win. The Lady Huskies moved into sole possession of first-place with a 65-62 double overtime win over the Red Raiders behind Johnson’s 25 points. Ashley Marshall dished in 12 points for the Huskies who improved to 5-0 in the division, while Massena suffered its divisional first loss. For the Raiders, Nicole Johnson rolled for 21 points and had eight rebounds. Janelle Bradish added 10 points and six rebounds.
