CANTON SNAGS FIRST LEAGUE WIN IN BEATING POTSDAM

The Canton Lady Bears won their first league game, 47-37 over Potsdam.  Kacie Wentworth poured in 16 points to lead Canton who improved to 1-6 in league and 6-8 overall.  Emily Archibald dealt 11 more points for Canton. Potsdam was led by Tess Hazen and Veronica Sapp with 10 points each.

Madrid-Waddington's Jena Cryderman (33) scoots into the air for the shot, but draws a foul from St. Regis Falls' Kristin Mintch (21).  In the tight defensive struggle, M-W’s Alex Martin led all scorers with just eight points. Kristin King contributed 11 steals. Madrid-Waddington improved to 8-3, 11-4 overall. Krista Lucas and Khalisha White each netted six points for the Saints who fell to 7-7, 9-7 overall.
 

HARRISVILLE BEATS HAMMOND IN O.T. TO TAKE WEST LEAD

The Hammond Red Devils string of West Division titles fell in jeopardy after coming up on the short end of their second-straight divisional battle. After topping Hermon-DeKalb in double overtime earlier this week, Hammond fell short to rival Harrisville 67-64 on Thursday. For the Pirates, the win moved them into sole possession of first place in the West by a full game with just two games remaining in the regular season. Katelyn Hart and Patty Coloney made key plays for Harrisville down the stretch for th win. Hart splashed 24 points, with 14 points coming in the final quarter including the game-tying bucket. Coloney racked up with 16 points, including five points in overtime. She added 11 rebounds. Malynda Jenne led the Red Devils with 32 points while Alyssa Crosby dished in 14 points.
 

HERMON-DEKALB TURNS BACK EDWARDS-KNOX 60-47

HAMMOND OUTLASTS H-D DEMONS IN DOUBLE O.T. 53-52

The Hermon-DeKalb Lady Demons had the defending Section X West Champion Hammond Red Devils on the ropes in the second overtime with a six-point advantage, but the Devils emerged with a 53-52 victory in a thriller at Hammond. Malynda Jenne led the Devils’s late rally with two trifectas to pull the Devils back within reach and hit two free throws in the final eleven seconds to secure the victory. Jenne scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and three steals. Alyssa Crosby also netted 12 points. For Hermon-DeKalb, Brianna Sayer led all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds. Kelly Williams added 15 points and Rochelle Whitton 10. Hammond improved to 8-1, 12-3 overall. Hermon-DeKalb fell to 6-3, 9-5 overall.
 

PIRATES' PATTY COLONEY NETS 34 TO REACH 1,000 PTS.

Harrisville’s Patty Coloney became the latest Section X basketball player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in her varsity career – and it could not have come at a better time for the Pirates. Coloney pumped in 34 of Harrisville’s 46 points and surpassed the millennium mark in a 46-45 win over the Lisbon Golden Knights. However, it was Taylor Wood’s bucket with four seconds left that sealed the win for Harrisville (8-1, 10-1 overall.). The Knights had a chance to tie on free throws with two seconds left, but did not connect. Jaclyn Moore led Lisbon with 18 points.

OGDENSBURG'S MORRISON PASSES 1,000-POINT PLATEAU

Ogdensburg’s Megan Morrison is the latest Section X basketball player to join the ranks of 1,000 varsity career points scored. Morrison poured in a game-high 22 points in powering the Blue Devils to a 43-17 non-league road win at Norwood-Norfolk. The Flyers kept the game close for the first period, down just 10-7, before the game slowly flipped away over the next two periods. Morrison and the Blue Devils romped 15-2 in the final eight minutes to seal the win. Elissa St. Germain added eight points for O.F.A., while Chelsea Doran led the Flyers with six points.
 

 HEUVELTON UPENDS E-K COUGARS FOR 46-40 VICTORY


After a steal, Heuvelton’s Kara Leonard (3) is off to the races being chased by Edwards-Knox's Kaylee Hartley (1).  Emily Ross and Sam Weaver popped for 12 points each in delivering the Bulldogs to a 46-40 win over the E-K Cougars, despite a 23-point performance for the Cougars' Lindsey Crosbie.

MASSENA DOWNS LISBON 54-31 IN NON LEAGUER MATCHUP

Lisbon rolled out to a 19-12 lead at the half, but adjustments at intermission sharply turned the contest with Massena outscoring the Knights 42-12 in the second half. The Raiders were led by 16 points from Alisha Jacobs, with 11 added by Paulina Behrens. Jaclyn Moore paced Lisbon with 15 points.
 

 SHAMROCK DEFENSE STYMIES P-H PANTHERS EARLY 51-26

PIRATES PRESSURE HAMMOND INTO FIRST LEAGUE LOSS 55-48

HEUVELTON BREAKS AWAY IN 3RD QUARTER TO BEAT FLYERS

  Harrisville’s Desiree Hall (44) comes from behind and snatches the rebound away from Malone’s Bridget Gravel (32)The malone Huskies defeated Harrisville 51-28 to sweep the Con Elliott Christmas Basketball Tournament at Potsdam.

Malone’s Sarah Lamica (41) grabbed a rebound and out it back up an din for the bucket against Harrisville.  Brittany Marshall finished with game-high 13 points for the Huskies.  Kelsey Johnson added 11 and Amanda Gadway 10.  Patty Coloney led the Pirates with nine points.
 

POTSDAM SURGES BACK TO NIP HAMMOND 43-41 IN TOURNEY


Potsdam’s Veronica Sapp knocked down the game-winning shot over Hammond’s Cortney Whalen with 13 seconds left to give the Sandstoners a 43-41 win in the semifinals of the Con Elliott Christmas Tournament at Potsdam.   Game Gallery

Potsdam’s Natalie Carranza (21) battles for the loose ball on the floor with Hammond’s Brianne Langtry.  In a seesaw battle that saw eight lead changes and leads of no more than four points on either side, Hammond took the lead 37-33 with a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Potsdam responded with four straight points to tie, before Malynda Jenne put the Devils back in front for a 39-37 lead. Potsdam ran off another four points, forcing Jenne to tie the contest again at 41-all. Sapp’s midrange jumper gave Potsdam the final win. ST. REGIS FALLS REPEATS AS PROVOST TOURNEY CHAMPS


St. Regis Falls’ Krista Lucas reaches up for a rebound with Norwood-Norfolk’s Brynn Tebo (13).  The Saints jumped to a 13-2 lead by the end of the first quarter which proved to be the Flyers' downfall in a 38-22 Falls victory in the championship of the Heather Provost Basketball Tournament.  The Saints were led by Lucas who dropped 19 points, snagged 14 rebounds and dished out five assists.  She was named Tournament Most Valuable Player.  Game Gallery   NCSN Broadcast

O.F.A. WINS FIRST LEAGUE GAME BEATING POTSDAM 59-42


  Potsdam’s Rachel Johnson (15) blocks a shot from Ogdensburg’s Elissa St. Germain (23).  But the Sandstoners could not block St. Germain from a 21-point performance that included 18 rebounds as the Blue Devils grabbed a 59-42 Central Division victory on Tuesday.  Lindsay Drummond also splashed 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Potsdam’s Veronica Sapp (30) attempts the midrange jumper from the corner of the key over two Ogdensburg defenders.  The key to the Blue Devils victory was a fast start, outscoring Potsdam 15-2 in the first quarter.  Makenzie College delivered 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Devils.  Potsdam was led by Tess Curry who notched a team-best 16 points.
 

EDWARDS-KNOX OUTLASTS N-N FLYERS IN CONSOLATION 38-33


Norwood-Norfolk’s Emily Cotey (5) makes a bounce pass while being defended by Edwards-Knox’s Raven Reese. Edwards-Knox turned back Norwood-Norfolk's fourth quarter rally, back from a 16-point deficit, for a 38-33 victory.  Edwards-Knox was led by Kaylee Hartley and Lindsey Crosbie who each netted 13 points.  Emily Cotey paced the Flyers with 16 points.

M-W JACKETS EEK OUT 43-42 WIN VS. CANTON IN SEMIFINAL


Madrid-Waddington’s Chelsea Ashley (15) drives baseline to the basket on Canton’s Emily Archibald (4).  The Yellow Jackets held on to beat Canton 43-42 in the semifinals of the Ben Cordwell Tournament at O.F.A.  The Jackets scored the last nine points of the game to squeeze out the win.

The Jackets (5-0 overall) were led by Kristin King’s scored 14 points and 10 rebounds. (1-3 overall). Ogdensburg was led by Meg Dodge with eight points. Hammond will advance to play Madrid-Waddington for the championship, while Ogdensburg takes on Canton in the consolation.

LISBON CHALLENGES HAMMOND BUT FALLS TO DEVILS 53-45

Lindsey Crosbie led Edwards-Knox 16.

Hermon-DeKalb’s Franchesca Trombley (10) fights for the rebound bring ing down away from Morristown’s Desirea Dulmage.  The H-D Green Demons rolled away with a 47-26 win over the Green Rockets in the Section X West Division season opener on Monday night.  Brianna Sayer led the Demons with 14 points, while Rochelle Whitton added 13 points.  Dulmage scored six points and snatched nine boards.
