Madrid-Waddington's Stephanie Lancto (33) goes up for the lay in while getting hacked from behind by a Haldane player.  Lancto had seven points and six rebounds.  However, the Jackets were unable to reign in Haldane's Brittany Shields who was named State Class C Most Valuable Player who splashed 23 points and snagged 12 rebounds.  Meanwhile, the 3rd quarter turned into a scoring nightmare for the Jackets, who managed to come away with just four points in the first two minutes then nothing for the final 6:03.  Crystal Mouthorp finished with a team-high nine points for the Jackets.

Haldane celebrates upon winning the  New York State Class C Championship, while Madrid-Waddington's Cierra Wells (3) shows her disappointment as she walks off the court.  THe Yellow Jackets finish as the state's second best in Class C.

HAMMOND COMPLETES SECTION X TRIFECTA: REPEATS AS N.Y. CHAMPS

Hammond's Brittany Kenyon (11), Aubrie Dunn (35) and Nicole Davidson (50) launch into celebration after the final horn sounds as the Red Devils completed back-to-back New York State Girls Class D Championships on Sunday.  The Red Devils beat John A. Coleman Catholic High School 47-38 to win their second straight title in their third straight year in the state championship game, completing a basketball trifecta for Section X, with Malone girls and Chateaugay boys also winning state titles!  Unlike last year when they climbed back from a 15-point deficit to win the 2007 state title vs. S.S. Seward, the Red Devils led all the way for the 2008 title.  Hammond was led again this year by Kenyon's 17 points which led to her selection as the State's Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. Davidson contributed 12 points.  (Eric Foote photo)  Hammond Championship Game Gallery

Hammond's Brooke Hollister (12) gets the easy layup after driving past Coleman's Lauren Carnevali (25).  The experience factor and tough defense inspired the Hammond win.  The Red Devils (24-4) also became the first North Country team to capture back-to-back New York State titles.  An immediate 10-1 lead in the first quarter threw Coleman Catholic into an early hole from which they were unable to overcome.  Kenyon fired up in the second half to score 13 of her 17 points, while Hollister contributed two key putbacks and drained a three-ball during a crucial second-half run.  She scored 11 points.  Aubrie Dunn yanked down 10 rebounds.
