O.F.A. Nips Alexandria Bay in Consolation 5-4


Alex Bay's Jason Heath notched the first goal of the game for for the Ghosts, burying the puck behind Ogdensburg goaltender Chris Harper.  The Blue Devils scored in the game-winning goal with just under 10 seconds remaining in the game to beat Alexandria Bay 5-4 in the consolation of the Thousand Islands Tournament.  Sweet Home defeated Thousand Islands 4-2 in the tourney final. N-N ICEMEN PUMP IN 9 GOALS IN BEATING MALONE HUSKIES

VIKINGS KNOCK OVER TUPPER LAKE 5-1 ON KEMP'S HAT TRICK


Tupper Lake's Jon Kopp (14) uses a screen from Bryan Geiger (6) to roll free toward the net.   Thousand Islands' Nathan Kent netted a hat trick and assisted on another goal to power the Vikings to a 5-1 win over the Lumberjacks.  Tupper Lake’s Rick Lalonde scored late in the first period to tie the game 1-1, but Kemp put the Vikings ahead with two goals in the middle period. POTSDAM SPREADS OUT SCORING IN 6-1 WIN AT MALONE

Malone's Mike Studlack (5) gets behind the Potsdam defense for a shot on goal.  Tyler Adams, Greg Burkum, Matt Merriman and Mike Ellis each tallied a goal and an assist in the Sandstoners’ 6-1 win at Malone. Potsdam improved to 6-3-1, 10-7-1 overall. Malone's lone goal came when Andrew Lucia fired a shot from just inside the blueline that was deflected by Devin Fleury on the way to the net. 
 

POTSDAM UPENDS MASSENA IN 4-3 WIN, TIGHTENING D-1 RACE


Potsdam's Peter McAdoo (20) fires off an uncontested point-blank shot that handcuffs Massena goalie Nathan Lint, then deflects to the corner. Seth Adams and Mike Ellis each provided a one goal and an assist, while Greg Burkum notched the other goal for Potsdam (5-3-1, 9-7-1 overall).  Greg Burkum also scored for the Sandstoners. Ryan Chauvin drilled two goals and David Peets scored the other for Massena (6-2-2, 8-6-2 overall).
 

LARRIES RISES TO FIRST IN D-2 EAST UPSETTING CANTON 4-1


St. Lawrence Central goaltender Jordan Gary (30) struggles to corral the loose rebound on the edge of his crease with one Canton player lurking at his side and other being blocked by defenseman Dylan Patterson (18).  The Larries dealt the Golden Bears (5-1-1) their first league loss of the season with a 4-1 win.  The Larries led 1-0 after two periods, but Zach Baldwin buried a goal and assisted on another in the third period to seal the Larries' victory.  (Foote photo)  Game Gallery

St. Lawrence Central’s Brady Helmer (17) looks to make a pass around the stick check of Canton defenseman Colin Howard (10).  The Larries scored three times in the final 15:00 of the third period to seal a 4-1 win at Canton.  Charlie Dullea, Jack Keenan and Blake Baldwin also netted goals for the Larries, while Colin Howard delivered Canton's lone marker. 
 

ROUNDPOINT, THOMAS LEAD SALMON TO WIN OVER GHOSTS


Salmon River’s Kyle Roundpoint buries his own rebound past Alexandria Bay goaltender Andrew Swords for his first of two goals on the night . The Shamrocks beat the Purple Ghosts 8-3, led by Roundpoint and Clay Thomas who each scored two goals. The Purple Ghosts were led by Jason Heath and Josh Slocum who each contributed one goal and one assist.  The Shamrocks scored three quick goals late in the first period to take command.  (Eric Foote photo)

RED RAIDERS RALLY TWICE TO TIE CANTON 4-4 IN OVERTIME


Massena’s Nate McDonald (9) puts a hit on Canton’s Trent Durocher along the boards in the neutral zone.  Canton jumped on the Raiders with two quick goals in the first period – one by Matt Flynn and the other from Erik Howard. After Massena tied the contest 2-2 in the second frame, Trent Durocher and Joe Conklin each knocked in scores for the Bears.  Canton remains unbeaten in divisional play at 5-0-1, 10-3-2 overall. CANTON CONTINUES TO RISE IN DIVISION I, BEATING POTSDAM

fell to 3-2-1 in the division and 7-6-1 overall.

Ogdensburg's Eric Whitcombe (5) stuffs puck in on the short side of the net past Malone goalie Dan Rondeau (30),  Barr buried three goals all in the second period for a “natural hat trick” as the Ogdensburg Blue Devils romped past Malone 7-0. Also scoring for O.F.A., Erik Whitcombe had two goals and Jake Garrison netted another. MASSENA, SALMON RIVER BATTLE TO 2-2 O.T. DEADLOCK

Sharp goaltending highlighted the 2-2 overtime tie between the Salmon River Shamrocks and Massena Red Raiders on Wednesday night. The Shamrocks Matt Healy stopped 28 shots and Massena’s Nate Lint turned out 25 shots in the overtime thriller. Salmon River’s goals were scored by Kevin Davey and Kyle Roundpoint. Massena received markers from Ryan Chauvin and David Henrie. Massena’s record improved to 11 points at 5- 1-1 and 7-5-1 overall, while Salmon River is now 4-2-2 and 6-5-2 overall.
 

SARANAC LAKE TOPS O.F.A. 4-1 TO REPEAT TOURNAMENT TITLE


Saranac Lake forward Devin Darrah (15) tucks the game's first goal past Ogdensburg netminder Chris Harper at 2:22 of the first period.  The goal stood until Darrah scored again in the third period, leading the Red Storm to a 4-1 win over O.F.A. in the championship of the Brian Wade Memorial Tournament.  Drew Tedford connected for a goal and two assists, while Dolan Riley scored the other Red Storm goal. Five All-Tournament Team players are honored with plaques from members of the Brian Wade Family following completion of the Brian Wade Memorial Hockey Tournament in Ogdensburg on Saturday.  Saranac Lake beat Ogdensburg 4-1 to repeat as tournament champions.  Members of the All-Tournament Team included (left to right): Saranac Lake goalie Tyler O'Neil, defenseman Tyler Randig and MVP forward Devin Darrah; and from O.F.A. forward Tim Barr and goaltender Chris Harper.


RED RAIDERS RALLY TO TIE CANTON 4-4 IN OVERTIME

Canton’s Matt Flynn celebrates a first-period goal on a tip in front, after a shot from Colin Howard at the point. Canton and Massena tied 4-4, after Massena came back twice from two goal deficits.  The Raiders' Connor Dix scored the game-tying goal with 2:59 remaining in the third period.  Ryan Chauvin scored twice – a goal in the second and another in the third period – to help draw Massena within a goal before Connor Dix slammed home the game-tying marker. David Henrie netted the other goal for the Red Raiders.

SHAMROCKS' SHOW POISE IN SWEEP OF N. HARTFORD, ROME


Salmon River's Derek Hopps (3) reaches out and tries to sneak the puck past Rome Free Academy goalie Mike Endres (31) while being tied up by defenseman Jeff Holzberger.  The Shamrocks completed a solid two-game weekend sweep in beating #3-ranked New Hartford 5-4 in overtime on Friday and scored four goals in the second period to comeback for a 5-3 win over R.F.A. on Saturday. Hopps and Kevin Davey provided a goal and an assist to the Shamrocks’ offense.

#3 NEW HARTFORD SCORES LATE GOAL TO NIP POTSDAM

New Hartford’s goaltender Tyler Kraft (30) makes a glove save while a Potsdam player rolls and crashes into him.  Matt Merriman and Taylor Hazen each posted goals for Potsdam, but a pair of goals from New Hartford’s Clayton Whitmore, then a short-handed goal by Alex Fukes on a feed from Jason Fitzgerald with just 3:07 to play lifted New Hartford to a 3-2 non-league win over Potsdam. The Sandstoners’ Evan Drummater turned aside 22 shots between the pipes.

ICEMEN SCORE QUICKLY TO BEAT LAKE PLACID 8-0

POTSDAM DEALS N-N ICEMEN FIRST LEAGUE LOSS 3-0


Norwood-Norfolk’s Tom Plumb (12) controls the puck advancing over the blueline and into the neutral zone while pressured from behind by a Potsdam defender. SHARPE GOALTENDING BACKS CANTON WIN OVER SALMON


Canton’s Trent Durocher reaches out and tucks the puck just inside the post for a goal to give Canton a 1-0 lead. Durocher scored Canton's second goal on a tip-in during a scramble in front of the Salmon River net ias the Golden Bears captured a 2-0 win over the Shamrocks. Canton goalie Dakota Sharp makes a save from the side of the net on a point-blank shot from Salmon River’s Eric Sisto (17).  The Shamrocks dominated the play in the first few minutes and outshot Canton 32-25 overall.  The pivotal point in the game came with less than 4:30 remaining with Canton leading 1-0, when the Shamrocks had Sharpe down on the ice, but shot the puck over the open net.  Seconds later, Trent Durocher tipped home the insurance marker for a 2-0 win.

PURPLE GHOSTS ROMP 9-1 VS. SARANAC IN CONSOLATION

Saranac Central's Alex Sarazen (28) tries to tie up Alexandria Bay's Carl Balk (23) for the puck in front of the Chief's net during second-period play.  Alex Bay poured 53 shots on net. Justin Ward collected a hat trick and an assist.  Josh Slocum added a goal and an assist, while Jason Heath dished out four assists.  Tony Bobkoskie and McKenzie Garlock each had two goals and an assist.  Gannon Beach add the other Ghosts goal.  Zach Walti and Carl Balk added assists.  Saranac's lne goal was scored by Ian Fisher from Nate Haber and Matt McCasland.  Alex Bay's Andrew Swords stopped 11 shots.
 

THREE QUICK GOALS LIFT TUPPER TO FIRST LEAGUE WIN


Tupper Lake goaltender Marcus Richer scrambles on the ice and gets help from a defender's stick in clearing the rebound from his crease.  The Lumberjacks blitzed Malone for three goals in a span of just 40 seconds in the second period, then held off a late Huskies' rally for a 3-2 victory and the Jacks' first win since returning to Section X four years ago.  Zach Meade, RIck LaLonde and Josh Facteau scored in rapid succession to create the win.  Richer stopped 25 shots.

Tupper Lake's Josh Facteau (15) battles from behind, trying to take the puck from Malone's Mike Studlack (5).  Devin Fleury scored teh game's opening goal early in the second period, then Studlack tipped home a goal early in the third to draw the Huskies back within a goal.  The Huskies had what appeared to be a goal not count when neither official signaled it in the net.  The officials' ruling, "The puck did not go in the net."  Malone goalie Dan Rondeau collected 22 saves between the pipes.

O.F.A. & SALMON RIVER BATTLE TO 1-1 OVERTIME DEADLOCK


Salmon River’s Aaron Jacobs (22) rattles Ogdensburg’s Eric Whitcombe with a solid check to the ice near the center red line.  O.F.A.’s Chris Harper stopped 28 shots in net, while Matt Healy turned aside 15 shots for Salmon River.

Salmon River’s Jeremy Cole (18) knocks the puck off the stick of O.F.A.’s Ernie Jeneault (2).  The Devils and Shamrocks played to a 1-1 overtime tie in Division II action.  O.F.A.'s Drew Hilbourne and Salmon River’s Evan Thompson scored .

ST. LAWRENCE ROMPS OVER ICEMEN TO WIN TOURNEY FINAL


St. Lawrence Central forward Brady Helmer (17) looks for the open hole and drills the puck into the net past Norwood-Norfolk goaltender Nick Belile (30).  Helmer netted two goals and an assist.  Zach Baldwin scored the game winner and added an assist.  The Larries blitzed for three quick goals in the first period, then added two more in the second and third periods for a 7-1 win over the Icemen in the championship of the 2009 St. Lawrence Central Christmas Tournament.

POTSDAM DEALS N-N ICEMEN FIRST LEAGUE LOSS 3-0


Norwood-Norfolk’s Tom Plumb (12) controls the puck advancing over the blueline and into the neutral zone while pressured from behind by a Potsdam defender. BLUE DEVILS GRAB SURPRISE ROAD WIN AT MASSENA 2-1


Ogdensburg goaltender Chris Harper goes low to spot the puck through traffic and make the stop against Massena's Ryan Chauvin (16).  David Peets collected the only goal that the Raiders could muster.  Evan Raymo assisted at 1:43 of the opening period. Harper made 28 saves.  Eric Barr and Eric Whitcombe scored the goals for the Blue Devils in a 2-1 upset at Massena Arena.  The Devils improved to 2-1-2 in league,

FLYNN'S GOAL AND SHARPE'S SAVES LEAD CANTON IN 1-0 WIN

LARRIES EDGE O.F.A. 6-5 IN O.T. DESPITE 5 WHITCOMBE GOALS


St. Lawrence Central’s Andrew Fiske (21) puts a big hit on Ogdensburg’s Cody O’Marah that knocked the puck loose to Charlie Dullea (9) to make a run up the ice for the Larries.  Brett Mahoney knocked home the game-winning goal on a pass from Zach Baldwin just 0:26 into overtime to lift the Larries to a 6-5 win, to overcome five Blue Devils' goals from Erik Whitcombe.  The Larries had four one-goal loads in the game, only to have the Devils battle back each time. (Foote photo)  Game Gallery

Ogdensburg’s Eric Whitcombe (5) scores glove side on a breakaway, beating St. Lawrence Central goaltender Jordan Gary (30). The goal put the Blue Devils up 1-0 early, but the Larries answered back with two goals of their own in the first period.  Whitcombe scored all five O.F.A. goals, including a pure hat trick with three goals in the third period alone, to keep pulling the Blue Devils even in regulation.  With the win, the Larries improved to 3-2 in the division and 4-2 overall. GOALIES LINT & PAQUIN BACK-STOP RAIDER WIN VS. VIKINGS


Massena goalie Nathan Lint (1) peers through the pileup in the crease to stop the puck from going into the net.  Lint picked up the shutout in Massena's 7-0 victory over Thousand Islands on Wednesday.  Connor Amo led the way with two goals and two assists, while Zach Prashaw and David Henrie each added a goal and an assist in the Raiders' victory.  Lint made nine saves in the first two periods, before giving way to eighth grader Connor Paquin who completed the shutout with three saves in the third period.  (Chris Engel photo)   Game Gallery

SALMON RIVER BURIES NINE GOALS & MALONE HUSKIES

Malone's Dan Rondeau was shelled with 44 shots, making 35 saves between the pipes.

CICERO COMEBACK DROPS POTSDAM TO 3RD IN TOURNEY

Potsdam goaltender Evan Drummater (30) spies the puck sliding toward him while Shane McHenry (7) drops a Northstars' attacker at the edge of the crease.  Peter McAdoo and Mike Ellis scored early goals for Potsdam, but CNS goalie Zach Hall shut down the Sandstoners the rest of the way with 23 saves. Brad Monroe and Brian Hamilton led the Northstars’ comeback with a goal and two assists each. Cody Spadaro scored the game-winning goal midway through the period, giving CNS a second-place finish, tied with Canton with best record in the tournament at 1-0-1. Norwood-Norfolk's Tyler Murray (8) made a quick fake and then ripped a penalty shot past St. Lawrence Central goalie Jordan Gary early in the third period to break a 2-2 deadlock.  The penalty shot came after a defenseman held the puck in the crease.  The goal propelled the Icemen to a 5-2 win over the rival.  Murray scored two goals and dished out an assist.  Tom Plumb added a goal and two assists, while Alex Ploof and Josh Tiernan each scored their first markers of the seaosn.  Zach Baldwin and Jack Keenan scored for the Larries. 
 

POTSDAM, OGDENSBURG OPEN SEASON WITH OVERTIME TIE

KEENAN, HELMER TOP LARRIES' SCORING IN 7-3 WIN AT TUPPER

Larries celebrate after Brady Helmer scores to open a 2-1 lead. Zack Decheine scored an unassisted goal just 31 seconds into the contest to give the Jacks a short-lived lead.  Jordan Gary collected 19 saves, while Jack Keenan and Brady Helmer each netted a pair of goals to rally the Larries to a 7-3 win on the road in a Section X Division II matchup.  Charlie Dullea and Andrew Fiske each contributed a goal and an assist in the win.
 

MASSENA BREAKS ITS OPEN IN 2ND PD. TO BEAT CLARKSTOWN


Massena goalie Nathan Lint dives out and deflects the puck just wide of the Red Raider goal.  Lint turned aside 19 shots in the shutout, while the Raiders broke the game open with three second-period goals to ice Clarkstown North 6-0 in the opening round of the Massena Invitational Tournament on Friday.

FIACCO'S LAST-MINUTE GOAL LIFTS ICEMEN TO 7-5 VICTORY 


Norwood-Norfolk’s Thomas Fiacco (20) is thwarted on a break-away by the right pad of Salmon River goaltender Matt Healy (10).  N-N's Tom Plumb was part of six of Norwood-Norfolk’s seven goals in a high-scoring 7-5 victory over Salmon River Shamrocks in a battle of teams at the top of Division II.

Salmon River’s Adam Bomberry (16) buries a shot off a rebound past Norwood-Norfolk’s goalie Nick Belile (30) in the first period to tie the game 1-1, just 37 seconds after the N-N's Tom Plumb opened the scoring.  The Shamrocks gained a 2-1 lead before the end of the period on a Chris Thomas goal.  Plumb added two goals and an assist as the Icemen outscored Salmon River 3-1 in the second frame.  Fiacco broke a 5-5 tie with a power-play goal with just 0:46 left and Tyler Murray parked an open-netter with just 0:01 remaining to ice the win.
Murray chipped in two goals and an assist. Salmon River was led by Oakley Thomas with a goal and two assists. 
 

HOWARD HAT TRICK LEADS CANTON TO TOURNEY TITLE
