The Massena Red Raiders dominated in shots, 14-2, and controlled most of the action in the Huskies' end of the field in capturing their fifth straight Section X Class A title with a 2-0 shutout over Malone.  Katie Behrens raced through the defense and rifled the first shot past Huskies goalie Abby Premo with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.  The goal stood until seven minutes into the second half when Anna Riley slipped a through pass to a streaking Alanna Darling on the right side of the pitch and Darling caught the far goalpost.  The Raiders advance to N.Y.S. regional playoffs next week.
 

MASSENA SEASON ENDS IN STATE REGIONAL FINAL, 1-0

While outshot 16-9, the Massena Red Raiders hung in, but could not find a way to put the ball in the net and fell 1-0 to Section X’s Burnt Hills in the New York State Region II Championship. After a scoreless first half, Burnt Hills’ Monica Wolfe ripped the game’s lone goal midway through the second half to seal the fate of the Red Raiders who lost for just the second time this season (17-2-1). Michelle Hyde had 15 saves on the 16 shots she faced. Brunt Hills improved to 10-10-3.

Plattsburgh Shuts Out Potsdam in State Regional Semis

POTSDAM SEASON ENDS IN 3-0 LOSS IN STATE REGIONAL SEMI

PLATTSBURGH 3, POTSDAM 0
Plattsburgh defense turned away all but two shots on net for Potsdam in an impressive defensive performance that led the Hornets to a 3-0 win over the Sandstoners in the New York State Class B Regional Semifinals. Plattsburgh’s Sarah Carter delivered two goals in the second half (61st and 74th minutes) to provide insurance markers in the Hornets’ win. Adele Carroll scored the game’s first goal in the 17th minute that proved to be the game winner. Hornet keeper Emily Higgins stopped both Potsdam shots on net in the shutout. Potsdam goalie Monique Cornett turned aside six shots. Potsdam ended its year 17-3-1.

POTSDAM 4, GOUVERNEUR 0
The Potsdam Sandstoners rocked three quick goals in the first 10:01 of the contest and coasted to a 4-0 win over the #3 seeded Gouverneur Wildcats in the Section X Class B Girls Soccer championship game at SUNY Canton. Potsdam took advantage of a stiff first-half breeze to loft the ball and keep it in the Wildcats’ end. Ginette Cornett, Kaila Maguire and Alissa Tischler all pocketed goals within a five-minute blitz that forged an insurmountable lead. Liz Hafer tucked in an insurance marker on a scramble in front of the net in the closing 10 minutes. Gouverneur goalie Emma Lewis stopped five shots, while Potsdam keepers Johanna Evans-Welpe and Monique Cornett combined for four saves. Potsdam advances to the State Regional Semifinal at Plattsburgh on Wednesday.

The Salmon River Shamrocks defended Ogdensburg tightly in building a 3-0 lead before the Devils scored their lone goal.

The fourth-seeded Salmon River Shamrocks, the defending Class B Champions sent the Ogdensburg Blue Devils home for the season with a 3-1 victory in the play-in round of the 2007 Section X Class B playoffs.  Goals by Krista Barilko, Olivia Cook and Alley Bero delivered the Shamrocks to a semifinal date with the Potsdam Sandstoners on Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at SUNY Canton.  Alison Smiddy stopped seven of eight shots she faced, allowing one goal from O.F.A.'s Chelsea Martin, set up by Mary Beth Davis.

Gouverneur Wins Shootout 5-4
It went as far as you could take it. Eighty minutes of scoreless regulation, four overtimes and into the fifth and final kick of the shootout, tied 4-4 in penalty kicks. The #3 seeded Gouverneur Wildcats’ Karah Hartle made the fifth and final shot. The #2 seeded Golden Bears did not. And thus ended a marathon Section X Class B semifinal with the Wildcats advancing to play top-seeded Potsdam for the championship next Thursday at SUNY Canton. Gouverneur’s Emma Lewis made nine saves, while Canton’s Maggie Lapinski stopped five shots in the shutout during regulation and overtime. Canton finishes the the season 5-7-7 overall.
 

POTSDAM THWARTS ANOTHER SALMON UPSET IN 1-0 WIN

As the game went deeper into the second half without a score, both Potsdam and Salmon River faithful began to wonder if a repeat of last year’s playoff upset might happen again. Salmon River again gave Potsdam’s attacker fits, holding the Sandstoners scorers at bay – that is until the final two minutes. Kaila McGuire drifted a pass to Ginette Cornett who fed Alissa Tischler for the game’s lone goal with just 1:33 to play to lift top-seeded Potsdam to a slim 1-0 victory over the upset-minded #4 seeded Shamrocks. Monique Cornett collected six saves in the shutout victory, while Shamrock netminder Ali Smiddy turned aside 19 of the 20 shots she faced. The Sandstoners will play #3 Gouverneur for the Class B title on Thursday, November 1st.

Northern Adirondack Central’s Sarah Trudeau scored on a feed from Kaila Rabideau at 10:09 mark of the second half (51st minute) that proved to be the knockout blow for the Madrid-Waddington Yellow Jackets who fell 1-0 in a rugged N.Y. State Class C Regional Semifinals. The Yellow Jackets battled for the equalizer, but were unable to connect. With the 1-0 loss, it brought to end for the Madrid- Waddington season, finishing at 13-5-3. The Bobcats, ranked 11th in the state, outshot the Jackets 17-7, but the goalkeeping of M-W’s Stephanie Lancto kept the Jackets close. N.A.C.’s Allison Hull had completed a seven-save shutout for the Bobcats.

The Madrid-Waddington Yellow Jackets withstood late-game pressure from St. Lawrence Central while the Larries dug in seeking the equalizer – but it was a goal that never came. Cierra Wells redirected a pass from Jann Curley in the game’s 16th minute, generating a 1-0 lead and ultimately a victory for the #2 seeded Jackets in their third Section X Class C championship. The top- seeded Larries got strong goaltending from Brittany Rotach who collected eight of nine shots she faced. M-W’s Stephanie Lancto collected six saves and the shutout. With the win, Madrid- Waddington advances to the State Regional semifinals on Wednesday in Plattsburgh.

After a scoreless deadlock, the #5 Brushton-Moira Panthers outshot #4 Norwood-Norfolk 4-2 in penalty kicks to eliminate the Flyers and advance to the Section X Class C semifinals vs. top-seeded St. Lawrence Central on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Potsdam.  B-M's Courtney Taylor swallowed 20 shots in the win as the Flyers dominated through regulation and overtime, but could not dent the twines.  N-N's Theresa Gravlin snared five shots.

Larries’ Ashley Thayer (4) dribbled the ball around two defenders to register a shot on net in this sequence. The Larries outshot the Panther’s 11-2 in the contest. 

With a laser shot wired for just under the crossbar, Brushton-Moira goalkeeper Courtney Taylor came up with a great save. Taylor made several key saves to keep the Panthers in the game. Late in the second, the Panthers pressured hard, but the St Lawrence Central defense held them off.

ST. LAWRENCE CENTRAL 1, BRUSHTON MOIRA 0
St. Lawrence Central’s Shelby McGraw banged in the go-ahead goal with just 33.3 seconds remaining in the first half and the Larries’ defense made it stand up in capturing a 1-0 win over #5 seeded Brushton- Moira in the Section X Class C semifinals at SUNY Canton. Larries’ goalie Brittany Rotach collected five saves for the victory. Brushton-Moira keeper Courtney Taylor stopped 12 of 13 shots to keep the Lady Panthers (1–13-2) in the game. The top-seeded Larries (11-1-3) will encounter #2 Madrid-Waddington in the Class C title game on Thursday, November 1st.

Jenn Curley took a lead pass from Cambrey Merrick and delivered the game’s lone goal with only 53 seconds to play to propel the #2 Madrid-Waddington Yellow Jackets into the Class C title game next Thursday vs. East rival St. Lawrence Central. Stephanie Lancto snatched all eight Tupper Lake shots to collect the shutout win. Tupper Lake's best chance to score came midway in the second half in a scramble in front of Madrid-Waddington goalie Stephanie Lancto. Lancto made the initial save on the Tupper Lake shot, but the rebound squirted loose. Lancto recovered the ball near the goal line to deny the Lady Jacks the equalizer. Tupper goalie Meagan Duhaime turned aside 12 of 13 shots she faced.

Harrisville Drops 4-0 Decision to Chazy in NY Region Final

HARRISVILLE BOWS TO CHAZY 4-0 IN STATE REGIONAL FINAL

CHAZY 4, HARRISVILLE 1
The previously-unbeaten Harrisville Lady Pirates ran into one of the state’s best Class D soccer teams and an offensive juggernaut and a defensive “brick wall” as the Chazy Lady Eagles blanked the Pirates 4-0 in the New York State Region II Class D Championship. The very physical game saw Chazy strike first with 15 minutes left in the first half on a Victoria Reynolds goal, her first of three scores. Chazy ran over the Pirates, outshooting their guests 25-1. Reynolds collected a hat trick, while Caitlyn LaPier netted the other goal. Harrisville finished its strong season at 16-1-4.

HARRISVILLE 1, EDWARDS-KNOX 0
A hand ball infraction and a penalty kick. Harrisville’s Leah Malbeuf made the best of the Pirates’ best opportunity of the night, slamming home a low drive into the left side of the net to score the game’s only goal in the 50th minute of the game in a 1-0 victory over Edwards-Knox in the 2007 Section X Class D Championship. Despite dominating the first half, Cougars’ best chance came about 20 minutes into the second half when they rang a shot off the crossbar. It was the end of a 32-year coaching career for E-K Coach Don Thompson who finished with 358 wins in his storied tenure. Both goaltenders, Regina Reese of Edwards-Knox and Patty Coloney of Harrisville stopped five shots each. Edwards-Knox advances to the State’s Region II Championship game on November 10th.

EDWARDS-KNOX 3, CHATEAUGAY 2
The Edwards-Knox Lady Cougars erased a 2-0 halftime deficit with a blitz of goals to open the second half in a stunning 3-2 comeback win over the Chateaugay Bulldogs in the Section X Class D semifinals at SUNY Canton. The Section’s top scorer Miranda Typhair drilled two markers in the first seven minutes of the second half that sent reeling a Bulldogs’ team that seemed to have the game in control. Chateaugay used its speed to build a 2-0 lead on goals by Marissa Cook and Nikki Cook-Paige. After managing to pressure and come up empty with first-half shots that the crossbar coach, Coach Don Thompson’s words were, “It’s going to be one of those nights.” But in the second half, it became a night to remember. The Lady Cougars came out firing on all cylinders. Typhair scored in the second minute of the second minute and again in the seventh minute of the second half and suddenly the Cougars were even. The game-winning goal was scored by Kelsey Leroux (10) midway through the second half. Vanessa Bullock had a pair of assists. Even after the Edwards-Knox third goal, Chateaugay continued pressure up until the end, including a direct kick with 3.3 seconds left, but they could not capitalize for the equalizer.
 

HARRISVILLE TOPS ST. REGIS FALLS IN SEMIFINAL 3-0

She showed her determination as she had hard collision and went down for a period of time. HARRISVILLE 3, ST. REGIS FALLS 0
The top-seeded Harrisville Pirates stopped the upward run of the #5 St. Regis Falls in a 3-0 shutout in the Section X Class D semifinals. The Saints, who upset Lisbon in the quarterfinals, could not get on roll against the tight Harrisville defense, managing just seven shots. Leah Malbeuf notched two goals, while Emily Dickinson added a marker and Patty Coloney collected all seven saves in the victory. Kristen Grimm played well in net with 14 saves. The Pirates advance to the Class D championship game vs. West rival Edwards-Knox for their final showdown of the season on Friday.

HAMMOND SURGES BACK TO BEAT C-F EAGLES IN PLAYOFF

HAMMOND 4, CLIFTON-FINE 1
The upstart 11th-seeded Clifton-Fine Eagles scored first, but Hammond responded with two markers before halftime and two more unanswered goals in the second half to post the opening round with in the Section X Class D Girls Soccer playoffs.  Samantha Bice thrust the Eagles into the lead early.  However, Whitney Akins ripped a goal and an assist, while Sarah Sheridan, Jessie Disotelle and Brittany Kenyon added scores to catapult the Red Devils into the Class D quarterfinal round on Thursday against #3 seed Chateaugay.  Aubrie Dunn also chipped in a pair of assists.  Between the pipes, Brooke Hollister grabbed eight of nine shots in the win.
 

HEUVELTON OUSTS DEMONS ON GOAL LATE IN 2ND OVERTIME

HEUVELTON 1, HERMON-DEKALB 0 (2OT)
Overtime brought the thrill of victory to #8 Heuvelton, but the heartbreak of defeat to upstart #9 Hermon-DeKalb in the opening round of the Section X Class D Girls Soccer Playoffs.  Heather Johnson set up Amanda Pinkerton for the game winner with just 0:27 left in the second overtime to touch off the Bulldogs celebration.  The win matches Heuvelton with top-seeded Harrisville in the Class D quarterfinals on Thursday.  Bulldog goalie Cassy Fobare snagged 10 saves in the shutout.  H-D goalie Michelle Watkins all but stood on her head to make 20 saves in keeping Hermon-DeKalb in the game till the end.

ST. REGIS FALLS TRIPS LISBON 1-0 IN OVERTIME IN "D" Q-FINAL


Tory Lemke (9) of Lisbon manages to head the ball out of harms way as St. Regis Falls picked up some momentum in the second half of a very evenly match game.  The #4 seeded Lisbon Knights carried the play in the first half.  However, after a scoreless half, the #5 Saints picked up play in the second 40 minutes and buried the game winner in overtime to win the Section X Class D quarterfinal game on Thursday at SUNY Canton.  St. Regis Falls advances to the semifinals on Tuesday to play Harrisville.  (Harold Leroux photo)  Game Gallery

ST. REGIS FALLS 1, LISBON 0 (2OT)
The upstart and 5th-seeded St. Regis Falls Saints surprised the #4 Lisbon Knights with a goal in the second overtime to capture a 1-0 win  in the Section X Class D quarterfinals at SUNY Canton's new artificial turf field.  Khalshia White banged home the game winner, while Kristen Grimm outdueled Lisbon goalie Bridget Teele in nets. Grimm saved 18 for the shutout, while Teele made 24 of 25 saves.  The Saints advance to play top-seeded Harrisville in the semifinals on Tuesday.
 

EDWARDS-KNOX TURNS BACK P-H PANTHERS 2-0 IN Q-FINAL

EDWARDS-KNOX 2, PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 0
The #2-seeded Edwards-Knox Cougars took advantage of a direct kick off a handball just outside the 18-yard box, sending Miranda Typhair to deliver the game-winning kick that delivered the Cougars to a 2-0 win over the #7-seeded Parishville-Hopkinton Panthers in the Section X Class D Girls quarterfinals. After the defenses dominated a scoreless first half, E-K got the first key break. Behind a six-player wall in front of the net, Typhair spotted a hole at the lower left corner of the net and perfectly toed the shot past Panther goalie Shannon Gibson.  Brittany Colton tacked on the an insurance goal nine minutes later off a scrum in front of the net.  The Panthers' best chance rattled off three players in front of the net and chimed off the crossbar, but fell outward.  Katie Stone needed just four saves to collect the shutout win for E-K.  Panthers' goalies Gibson and Brittany Remington combined for eight saves.  The Cougars advance to play #3 Chateaugay in the semifinals. 
 

#1 HARRISVILLE SHUTS OUT HEUVELTON 2-0 IN Q-FINAL

Harrisville's Leah Malbeuf buried a goal and offered up an assist to power the top-seeded Lady Pirates to three first-half goals and an eventual 3-0 win over #8 Heuvelton in the Section X Class D quarterfinals at SUNY Canton.  Krista Paro and Nicole French also delivered goals for the Pirates.  Patty Coloney pitched another shutout in net with five saves.  Heuvelton goalie Cassy Fobare collected nine saves.  Harrisville takes on the #5 seeded St. Regis Saints in the semifinal round Tuesday.
 

CHATEAUGAY STRIKES EARLY TO OUST RED DEVILS 2-0


The Chateaugay Bulldogs attacked hard in the first half, scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes of play.  Although the Hammond Red Devils' defense tightened, they were outshot 24-5 and managed only one solid shot that hit the Bulldogs' cross bar.  Chateaugay won 3-0 in the Section X Class D girls quarterfinals at Potsdam.  (Curt Wood photo)  Game Gallery

CHATEAUGAY 3, HAMMOND 0
Three goals in the first 22 minutes catapulted the #3 seeded Chateaugay Bulldogs to a 3-0 win over the #6 Hammond Red Devils in the Section X Class D Girls quarterfinals at SUNY Potsdam.  Marissa Cook dealt the first goal on a quick drive in the third minute of play, which provided the Dogs with the first of three strikes. Candace Fowler added an insurance goal on a cross in the goalie box from Katie Hamelin just four minutes later.  Then from a sharp angle, Hamelin snuck the ball under goalie Brooke Hollister in the 22nd minute.  Hammond's defense tightened significantly, but the damage was done and the Red Devils were unable to crack the Bulldog defensive code.  Chateaugay advances to play #2 seed Edwards-Knox in the Class D semifinals on Tuesday.
 

P-H PANTHERS SURVIVE RAIN AND ROCKETS IN 2-1 VICTORY


Parishville-Hopkinton's Stephanie Cox(3) and Morristown's Olivia Trippi (17) fight for possession of the ball at midfield. Morristown won possession but failed to convert. Wet conditions played a part in the game's tying goal as the Panthers goalkeeper went down in anticipation of a shot on net the ball stopped in a large water puddle. PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 2, MORRISTOWN 1
The Parishville-Hopkinton Panthers broke a 1-1 tie in the 74th minute when Brooke Waite slipped a pass to Stephanie Cox for the game winner, beating #10 Morristown 2-1 in the Section X Class D Girls Soccer opening round.  The win advanced the #7 Panthers against #2-seeded Edwards-Knox in the quarterfinals on Thursday.  Waite also thrust the Panthers into the lead with the game's first goal.  Arielle Cobb scored in the Rockets' lone goal in Morristown's season finale.  P-H goalies Hannon Gibson and Brittany Remington combined for six saves, while Sarah LaBarge stopped 10 of 12 shots for the Rockets.
