Gouverneur Wins Shootout 5-4
It went as far as you could take it. Eighty minutes
of scoreless regulation, four overtimes and into the
fifth and final kick of the shootout, tied 4-4 in
penalty kicks. The #3 seeded Gouverneur Wildcats’
Karah Hartle made the fifth and final shot. The #2
seeded Golden Bears did not. And thus ended a
marathon Section X Class B semifinal with the
Wildcats advancing to play top-seeded Potsdam for
the championship next Thursday at SUNY Canton.
Gouverneur’s Emma Lewis made nine saves, while
Canton’s Maggie Lapinski stopped five shots in the
shutout during regulation and overtime. Canton

Salmon River goalie Allison Smiddy falls near the
corner of the net, then gobbles up the rebound,
after making a save on a shot from Potsdam’s Liz

defending Section X Class B champions from repeating
last year's upset run to the title when Alissa
Tischler meshed the game's lone goal with just 93
seconds left in regulation to give Potsdam a 1-0 win
in the 2007 Class B semifinals at SUNY Canton.

POTSDAM 1, SALMON RIVER 0
As the game went deeper into the second half without
a score, both Potsdam and Salmon River faithful
began to wonder if a repeat of last year’s playoff
upset might happen again. Salmon River again gave
Potsdam’s attacker fits, holding the Sandstoners
scorers at bay – that is until the final two
minutes. Kaila McGuire drifted a pass to Ginette
Cornett who fed Alissa Tischler for the game’s lone
goal with just 1:33 to play to lift top-seeded
Potsdam to a slim 1-0 victory over the upset-minded
#4 seeded Shamrocks. Monique Cornett collected six
saves in the shutout victory, while Shamrock
netminder Ali Smiddy turned aside 19 of the 20 shots
