MALONE'S MARSHALL TOSSES NO-NO TO FINISH SEASON WITH NO LOSSES

May 26: Malone's Ashley Marshall closed the season the way it began, with another no hitter, shutout and victory for the undefeated Huskies.  Marshall, who has been almost untouchable all season, fanned 17 Wildcats while pitching to just two batters over regulation (walk and a hit batter).  The win polished off a 14-0 regular season and 15-0 overall for the Huskies and the home seed in the Class A championship.  Marshall also contributed a single and a double to the offense.
 

CANTON CLINCHES TOP BERTH FOR "C" PLAYOFFS BEATING N-N 9-3

Canton defeated Norwood-Norfolk 9-3 and finished in second place in the Central Division and will be the first seed in the Class B playoffs. Norwood-Norfolk shortstop Alex Stevenson makes a diving stop keeping the ball in the infield and saving a run against Canton.  Stevenson also singled and scored a run.  Canton scored five times in the third inning to open up a 5-1 lead en route to the win.
 

HARRISVILLE BEATS CLIFTON-FINE
13-2 TO CLINCH 2ND IN WEST

Harrisville pitcher Nicole French reaches back to fire a pitch in the complete-game victory.  Nicole and Katie French both belted home runs, while Jeri Baker added four hits and Leah
Malbeuf cracked two hits for Harrisville. The Pirates finished the regular season 11-3 in league and 12-3 overall. Clifton-Fine dropped to 5-8 in league, 6-9 overall.
 

BULLDOGS' JOHNSON IS PERFECT GAME TO END PERFECT SEASON


A perfect finish to a perfect season: Heuvelton pitcher Heather Johnson pitched a perfect game against the Morristown Green Rockets on Thursday.  Johnson mowed down the first nine Rockets batters on strikes and struck out 16 overall to guide the Bulldogs to a 9-0 win over the Rockets and cap off a perfect

MARSHALL THROWS NO-HITTER IN PITCHERS' DUEL TO CLINCH CENTRAL


Malone's Brittany Marshall (4) comes to score the winning run in the second inning on the safety squeeze executed by pitcher Ashley Marshall.  In a solid pitchers' duel, Marshall threw a no-hit shutout against the second-place Bears to gain a 2-0 win and capture the Central Division regular-season pennant.  Marshall fanned 10 batters and walked just one in the win.  Canton's Kacie Wentworth, who threw five no-hitters this season, gave up only three hits in the loss. MORE PITCHING GEMS LEAD TO WINS FOR 1ST-PLACE MALONE, HEUVELTON

May 20: Malone’s Erica Johnson dealt a no-hit shutout in the Huskies 15-0 victory over the Tupper Lake Lady Lumberjacks. Johnson also aided the offensive attack with three hits and scored four runs as the Huskies stayed unbeaten at 12-0 in league and 13-0 overall. Brittany and Ashley Marshall each stroked three hits and a homerun for the Huskies. Meanwhile, Casey Donnelly allowed just one hit and set down 16 Demon batters as Heuvelton also remained unbeaten in league with a 17- 0 win at Hermon-DeKalb. H-D’s Brianna Sayer had a lone single for Hermon-DeKalb that fell to 5-7, 6-9 overall. The Bulldogs Katie Nicholson came close to hitting for the cycle with two triples, a double and a single while collecting two RBIs. Heather Johnson also contributed two triples and three RBIs.
 

ST. LAWRENCE CENTRAL TOPS SALMON RIVER FOR EAST DIV. TITLE

Sarah Thayer threw a five-hitter, struck out four, went 3-for-3 at the plate, drove in a run and scored a pair of runs as the Larries sailed to the win. Amanda Locke also scored a pair of runs on a single and walk for the Larries who improved to 11-0 on the season. Sky Timmons had two hits and an RBI, while Brittany Avery and Amber Debyea blasted doubles for the second-place Shamrocks who fell to 9-3 in league and 9-4 overall.

LISBON KEEPS PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE BEATING H-D DEMONS 13-6

Lisbon’s Mackenzie Walker scattered ten hits and struck out nine as she battled for a complete-game win.  Lisbon's Brianna Teele delivered a single, double and two RBIs to help the Knights improve to 5-8 on the season, even with the Demons.
 

PITCHERS TOSS NO-HITTERS FOR CANTON, MASSENA IN CENTRAL WINS

May 19: Two Section X Central Division pitchers tossed no-hitters on Tuesday. Massena’s Sierra Streeter walked only two batters and struck out 17 Sandstoners in a 13-0 no-hitter as Massena squared its league record at 7-7, 9-10 overall. Allie Flaro slammed four hits for the Raiders. Meanwhile, Canton’s Kacie Wentworth collected her fifth no-hit mound gem of the season in an 18-0 shutout over Gouverneur. Wentworth fanned nine batters and hit just one Wildcat in the Bears’ win. Heather Lottie hit a homer and MacKenzie Lennox’s two hits contributed a game-best four RBIs in improving Canton to 11-1 in league play and 17-1 overall.  Wentworth's other no hitters this season included 4-22-09 against Potsdam, 4-27-09 against Tupper Lake, 5-8-09 vs. Potsdam (perfect game) and 5-9-09 against Fulton.
 

PANTHERS KEEP PLAYOFF DRIVE ALIVE SWEEPING CHATEAUGAY


Chateaugay's defensive woes continued with a third-base miscue allowing Parishville-Hopkinton to advance a runner to third base.  The Panthers swept the Bulldogs 16-0 and 14-2 in East Division action.  (Kyle Coryea photo)  Game Gallery

Panther winning pitchers Stephanie Gushlaw and Michaela Coventry received plenty of quality defensive play and scoring offensive from their lineup with 30 runs over the two games. Led by Rebecca Remington with three hits over two games, the Panthers improved to 4-8 on the season. Emily Jackson led Chateaugay with two hits, including a triple. The Bulldogs ended their season winless at 0-14.
 

PITCHER KRISTA OAKES LEADS SALMON RIVER TO WIN OVER COLTS

FLYERS BOUNCE BACK TWICE TO BEAT MASSENA 7-4 ON MARTENS' HIT

Norwood-Norfolk’s Kailey Martens (14) had the big hit of the day, a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth that broke a 4-4 tie and cleared the bases for a 7-4 Flyers' win. Kristin Foote pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Flyers who improved to 2-6, upsetting the Raiders who fell to 2-4.
 

M-W JACKETS SWEEP PAST CHATEAUGAY IN TWINBILL 7-1, 11-8


Madrid-Waddington's Megan Barney windmills the fast ball for a strike.  The Yellow Jackets swept Chateaugay 7-1 and 11-8 to climb above .500 (3-2) for the first time this season.  The Bulldogs continued to slide, still looking for their first win.

Three Madrid-Waddington runners scored on passed balls in the fifth inning to blow open a 3-1 contest with a four-run rally in the opening game.  M-W's Jenna Cryderman hit a three-run homer with just one out in the top of the first inning to spark the Yellow Jackets to the win. MASSENA'S SIERRA STREETER DEALS NO-HIT SHUTOUT VS. TUPPER

May 11: Massena pitcher Sierra Streeter dominated Tupper Lake by striking out 17 batters and walking only two in pitching a 4-0 no- hitter over the Lumberjacks at Tupper Lake.  Raiders' Kara Holmes knocked in two runs with a fifth-inning single.  The Raiders improved to 4-3 in the Central Division and 6-6 overall.  Tupper Lake fell to 1-8.

HEUVELTON TOURNEY WASHED IN 2ND ROUND BY LIGHTNING


A Heuvelton runner dives headfirst into home plate to score a run on a passed ball.  The action occurred in the consolation game of the Heuvelton Girls Softball Tournament.  Massena blanked Heuvelton 2-0 and St. Lawrence Central dropped Ogdensburg 4-1 in the tourney semifinals.  The consolation and championship were both suspended by lightning in the second inning of action.  (Eric Foote photo)   Game Gallery

Taylor Bacon's two-run single was the only scoring of Massena's semifinal win over the host Bulldogs.  Pitcher Sierra Streeter scattered three Heuvelton hits amongst Cassy Fobare, Megan Johnson and Kelsie Rupp.  In the other semifinal, Sarah Thayer threw a three hitter in St. Lawrence Central's 4-1 win over O.F.A.  Ashley Thayer had two hits, including a triple.
 

MORRISTOWN SQUEEZES OUT 5-4 WIN OVER LISBON IN TOURNEY OPENER

Morristown shortstop Kirstie VanArnum (7) fields the throw from catcher Kirsten Skelly, but the throw is off the mark at second base and the Lisbon runner is safe.  Megan Kanaly threw another complete-game victory for the Rockets, scattering 10 hits.  Katie Porter's fifth-inning double delivered two runs to snap a 3-3 tie.  Lisbon scored a run in the last inning to threaten, but the rally died out.  Lisbon's Briana Teele had two hits to lead the way. Both teams played errorless ball.  Norwood-Norfolk plays Morristown for the tourney championship.
 

N-N FLYERS WIN LISBON TOURNEY OPENER VS. E-K COUGARS 19-7


A Norwood-Norfolk baserunner ducks and slides in safely to score before a throw arrives to Edwards-Knox catcher Abbey Campbell.  Norwood-Norfolk pounded out a 19-7 win over the Cougars in the opening round of the Lisbon Tournament and advances to play Morristown in the championship.

After Edwards-Knox rallied for four runs to take a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the third, the Flyers went on a 16-1 tear, erupting for six runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in both the sixth and seventh innings. N-N pounded out 19 hits.  Jenna Lazore led the late-innings onslaught with four hits for N-N.  Janna Fountain had two hits to lead Edwards-Knox.  Norwood-Norfolk plays Morristown for the tourney championship.
 

MORRISTOWN ROCKETS TO FIRST WIN OF SEASON BEATING EDWARDS-KNOX


Morristown’s Kirstie VanArnum tags out Edwards-Knox’s Brittany Hull while she was attempting to steal second base.  Morristown gained its first win of the season, avenging an earlier 10-9 loss to Edwards-Knox, by hammering out 10 runs in the first two innings en route to a 12-3 win Wednesday.

E-K's Kamrie Dandrow had a game-best three hits, with a single, double and triple, but suffered the loss on the mound.  Morristown bats were ready to open the game with four runs in the first and six more in the second inning.  The Cougars fell to 1-6, 1-8 overall. 
 

HAMMOND PULLS OFF SWEEP OVER HERMON-DEKALB DEMONS 6-2, 6-3


Hermon-DeKalb’s Natasha Sayer (9) tags out a Hammond runner trying to score from third base on a passed ball.  However, Hammond still pulled off a doubleheader sweep with 6-2 and 6-3 wins over the Green Demons.  Red Devils' pitcher Jessica Measheaw fanned seven Demon batters and contributed a pair of hits in the first game.  Sayer had two hits for the Demons.

SHAMROCKS STAY UNBEATEN WITH 12-9 WIN VS. CHATEAUGAY BULLDOGS

Salmon River hitters were led by Joelle Porter and Amber Debyah who each batted 3-for-4. Chateaugay was led by Emily Jackson who drove in two runs with a triple.  The Lady Bulldogs fell to 0-8 on the season.
 

SAYER'S PITCHING LEADS HERMON-DEKALB TO 12-2 WIN OVER LISBON


Hermon-DeKalb first baseman Angel Scales makes the stretch at first base keeping her toe on the bag but the umpire called the runner Lisbon Jen Lassial (12) safe saying Scales pulled her foot off of the bag.  Scales collected four hits and three RBIs in the contest. Brianna Sayer fanned seven Knights and helped her own cause by slamming a bases-loaded triple to lead Hermon-DeKalb over Lisbon 12-2 in a West Division matchup.  Darcy Matthews, Miranda Whiteford and Jenn Lassail all had two hits each for Lisbon.   Canton’s second baseman Paige LaRue tags out Malone’s Abby Premo after being gunned down by catcher Samantha Corbett trying to steal second base.  After Malone dotted the scoreboard with a run in the first and two in the third, Canton bounced back with three runs to tie in the fifth.  Canton's runs were the first runs against Canton in eight games.

Malone’s Ashley Marshall pitched a complete game four-hitter while striking out six Canton batters. her mound opponent, Kacie Wentworth, allowed just five hits and also struck out six.

HEUVELTON'S JOHNSON FANS 17 BATTERS IN 7-2 WIN VS. HARRISVILLE

Heuvelton’s Heather Johnson fanned 17 Pirates, including the first 15 putouts in row, then two in the final inning.  Katie Nicholson supplied three RBIs for Heuvelton who rallied for five unearned runs in the third inning, the difference in the game.  Katie French, the leadoff batter, led the Pirates with two hits.
 

EDWARDS-KNOX NIPS MORRISTOWN 10-9 TO GAIN FIRST WIN OF SEASON


Morristown’s first baseman Macy VanArnam is unable to make the catch on the throw into the runner at first base allowing  Edwards-Knox a base runner.  Edwards-Knox rallied to edge the Morristown Green Rockets 10-9.  E-K's Kamrie Dandrow fanned 13 Rockets in delivering the Cougars' victory.

 WENTWORTH TOSSES SECOND NO- HITTER OF SEASON BEATING TUPPER

Kacie Wentworth threw her second regular-season no-hit shutout in a five-inning 19-0 victory at Tupper Lake. Wentworth  struck out 13 of the 15 Lumberjacks she faced in a game that ended early under the mercy rule.  Wentworth also no-hit Potsdam just last week.  Meanwhile, several Lady Bears had three-hit performances at the plate.  Samantha Brown, Natasha Bell, Paige LaRue and Tori Thomas all cracked three hits as the Bears ganed the third league win in as many games and 5-0 overall. Tupper Lake fell to 0-4.

WHITE HOMERS FOR ST. REGIS FALLS IN 9-5 VICTORY OVER CHATEAUGAY

St. Regis Falls S. Sullivan (8) hits a homer in the second inning, hitting the ball the opposite way down the rightfield line.  Saints' pitcher Brittany Fountain got the win on the mound and aided her own cause going 2-for-5 at the plate.  Cassandra Whyte delivered three hits for the Bulldogs (0-4).
 

GOTHAM FANS 10 AS GOUVERNEUR DEFEATS SADNSTONERS 17-2


Gouverneur rightfielder sacrifices the body with a dive for the fly ball, but is unable to make the catch as the ball ends up underneath her.  Gouverneur's Lacy Redmond sliced four hits and slammed a triple to power the Wildcat offense in a 17-2 win at Potsdam.  Wildcat pitcher Joelyn Gotham sealed the win with a ten-strikeout, four-hit performance on the mound.

WENTWORTH DEALS NO HITTER IN CANTON'S VICTORY OVER POTSDAM


What a way to start the season -- with a no hitter!  Canton pitcher Kacie Wentworth (5) delivered a no-hit pitching performance, including 15 strikeouts in an 18-out, six-inning contest at home against the Potsdam Sandstoners.  Canton defeated Potsdam 15-0 to open the regular season for both teams.  Wentworth also collected two doubles and two RBIs

MALONE'S MARSHALL DEALS ONE-HITTER TO SHUT OUT WILDCATS 5-0


Gouverneur's Jacyln Gotham sends the shot down the line that is stabbed by the Malone first baseman.  Ashley Marshall twirled a one-hit shutout and fanned 19 batters in a 5-0 win for the Franklin Academy Huskies over the Gouverneur Wildcats.  Marshall surrendered the lone hit on a double by Jenna Weaver.  Malone's Abby Premo spanked tow hits and
drove in a run to lead the way for the Huskies (1-0).

MALONE'S MARSHALL PITCHES 18-0 PERFECT GAME VS. N-N FLYERS

Malone pitching ace Ashley Marshall twirled a perfect, no-hit shutout and struck out 17 of 18 batters she faced, not allowing a runner to reach base over six innings, as the Huskies of Franklin Academy powered past the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers 18-0.  Marshall also contributed two hits and delivered two RBI's in the victory.  The Huskies improved to 2-0.  Flyers' starting pitcher Jenna Lazore took the loss.
 

HERMON-DEKALB DROPS EDWARDS-KNOX COUGARS IN OPENER 16-6


Hermon-DeKalb catcher Kaylee O’Donnell gets the tag on Edwards-Knox’s Kamrie Dandrow. but it was just too late. Dandrow safely touches the plate for a two-run homerun. 
H-D's Natasha Sayer struck out six batters and delivered a home run and three RBIs to aid her own cause as the Demons beat the Cougars 16-6.  Game Gallery
