N-N Flyers Win Section X Championship

 Section X Track Championship: May 28, 2009


Norwood-Norfolk Flyers won the 2009 Section X Boys Spring Track Championship, their seventh in the last eight years.
 

N-N RECLAIMS SECTION X TRACK TITLE, MALONE 2ND, O.F.A. 3RD


Norwood-Norfolk's Justin Garrow and Canton's Matt Pierce gut it out to the finish line in the boys' 800-meter race in the Section X Championships held at Potsdam Central.  Garrow clocked in at 2:02.7, five-tenths of a second ahead of Pierce to claim the Section X Championship for the event. Garrow also won the 400 meters and anchored two winning relay teams for the Flyers who claimed the 2009 Section X Team Championship with 147 points.  Malone placed second with 121½.  O.F.A. was third at 113.  (Photos by Mike Webb & Bob LaRue)

Norwood-Norfolk's Dylan Spicer won four events, the 110 and 400 meter hurdles and was the lead runner in the winning 400 and 1600 meter relays, on the Flyers' championship team.  Jake Fredericks of Ogdensburg (right) trailed by just two-tenths of a second and Justin Marlow of Malone (left) was third.

Potsdam's Bobby Hewey jumped 5-feet-8 inches to claim third place and teammate Aaron Mitchell finished fifth in the boys high jump competition who by Ogdensburg's Russ Tuttle.

 Results of Weeks 1-5: April 20-May 23, 2009

N-N FLYERS NOTCH 2ND PLACE IN STANDINGS BEATING CANTON


Norwood-Norfolk's Justin Perry launches the shot put to a distance of nearly 40 feet in competition against Canton.  Perry took third place behind teammate Jared Pollack who also won the discus.  The Flyers cruised past the Bears 171-50 to finish the regular season at 8-1, clinching 2nd place behind Malone in the regular-season standings. Norwood-Norfolk's Zach Eng leads three Flyers to the finish line in a 100-meter sprint heat.  Teammate Zach Linksy won the event.  N-N's Dylan Spicer won the 110 meter hurdles and the 400 race.  The Flyers won the 800 and 3200 meter relays, while Canton took first in the 1600 relay.  Jon Eng won the 1600 meters and participated in a winning relay.  Aaron Pierce of Canton won the 800 and 3200 meters.

Norwood-Norfolk swept all three top spots in the boys triple jump, led by James Purvis, Jon Eng and Dan Jones.
 

O.F.A. CLINCHES THIRD PLACE WITH 156-84 WIN OVER TUPPER LAKE


Ogdensburg’s Colby Hurteau just edges head of a Tupper Lake runner to help his team win the 4x800 meter relay.  The O.F.A. A Tupper Lake athlete leaps far into ithe pit during the triple-jump competition. Ogdensburg's Griff Stark-Ennis (from Hammond) won the event.  O.F.A.'s Russ Tuttle won the high jump and long jump events, while Ken Crowley won the shot put and discus.  Tupper won the 800 and 3200 meter relays. 
 

MALONE CAPTURES SEASON TITLE IN BATTLE OF UNBEATENS VS. FLYERS


Norwood-Norfolk's Jon Eng goes toe-to-toe with a Chateaugay runner in the 3200 meter race.  Chateaugay runners travel with the Malone Huskies.  N-N's Colbert won the event with Eng second.  In a battle of two unbeatens, the Malone Huskies finished an undefeated regular season at 9-0 by outscoring Norwood-Norfolk 128-113.  J. Marlow of Malone won two hurdles events, just ahead of N-N's Dylan Spicer, to pace the Huskies on their home track . All five runners gut out a strong burst to the finish line in a close battle for first place in the 110-meter sprint.  Garrow of Norwood-Norfolk won the event and the 800 meters.  Watkins of Malone won two field events, the shot put and discus.
 

TWO RECORDS SET BY INDIAN RIVER, BUT FULTON WINS VANDUSEN


Norwood-Norfolk Flyers' Dylan Spicer edges ahead of Fulton and Malone competitors in the middle of the 110 meter hurdles and sprinted across the finish line in first place to capture the gold medal in the event at the 86th running of the VanDusen Track and Field Meet at Ogdensburg.  Fulton won the Team Championship.  Curtis Dukes of Indian River set a new VanDusen track record in the 110 meter dash with a 10.71 clocking.  Indian River set another record in the 400-meter relay.

Tupper Lake's Jake Klossner glides successfully up and over the bar in the boys' high jump competition. Ogdensburg's Russ Tuttle won the high-jump attempt.  Indian RIver's Curtis Dukes was named Outstanding Male Sprinter. Norwood-Norfolk's Jon Eng was named Outstanding Male Runner. Gouverneur's Kevin Koerick was chosen Outstanding Weight-Man. Indian River's Andre Green and Ogdensburg's Ross Tuttle were chosen Outstanding Male Jumpers.

OGDENSBURG DOMINATES POTSDAM IN 168-66 TRACK MEET VICTORY


Ogdensburg’s Griff Stark-Ennis (from Hammond) used his speed to sprint to victory in the 100-meter dash competition. A Potsdam competitor extends outward in the triple jump competition.  The Blue Devils who swept the first three places in the event, led by Jake Frederick two also won the 200 and 400 meter events.  Ogdensburg swept first place in ll but two events.  The Sandstoners won the 3200 relay, while Robert Hewey was the winner in the high jump competition.

NORWOOD-NORFOLK OPENS TRACK SEASON BEATING POTSDAM 178-58

MALONE RUNS STRONG IN BEATING OGDENSBURG BOYS TRACK 149-92

A Malone high jumper just clears the bar during the Madrid-Waddington Invitational won by Ogdensburg's Tuttle at six foot three inches. Justin Garrow of Norwood-Norfolk won two events, the 400 and 800 meter competitions, to lead the Flyers atop the 13-team leaderboard.  Ed Watkins of Malone won the shot put and discus.  Saranac Central's Nate Williams also took two events, the 100 and 200 meters, while his teammate Ben Depo accumulated the highest point total the pentathlon.
