OGDENSBURG WINS, FLYERS 2ND & CANTON 3RD AT VANDUSEN MEET


In a stunning photo finish: Indian River’s Curtis Dukes just edges out Gouverneur’s Cory Storie for the win in the 100-meter dash, Dukes broke the Section X record running in 10.8 seconds, while Storie tied the old record of 10.9 seconds.  The Ogdensburg Blue Devils captured the team trophy for winning the Boys VanDusen for the second year in a row, behind two event wins each for C.J. Bracy (high jump and long jump) and Jake Fredericks (110 hurdles and 400 meters).

BOYS TRACK ROUNDUP: MALONE SWEEPS; O.F.A. & M-W JACKETS WIN

The Malone Huskies dominated a tri-meet matchup with Norwood-Norfolk and Tupper Lake on Wednesday. The Huskies beat the Flyers 129-112 and the Lumberjacks 191-49. Norwood-Norfolk sailed past Tupper 203-48. Malone’s Tyler Wescott captured two individual events, winning both the long jump and 400 meters to lead Malone. Norwood-Norfolk’s Jon Eng won the 3200 and 1600 meters. In other meets, Ogdensburg’s Jake Fredericks bested the field with wins in the 200, 400 and triple jump, while Damian Abar added wins in the 100 and long jump to pace the Blue Devils in a 150½ to 89½ win over Canton. Madrid-Waddington rolled past Potsdam 71-62, with Aaron Cote winning in the 400, triple jump and running on the winning 3200 relay. Potsdam’s Will Yellot took the 1600 meters.
 

BOYS TRACK ROUNDUP: O.F.A. BLUE DEVILS & M-W JACKETS POST WINS

The Ogdensburg Blue Devils spoiled the season-opening meet for the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks with a 159-76 win in Boys Track and Field on Monday. Jake Fredericks dashed to wins in the 110 hurdles and the 200 and 400 meters. C.J. Bracy’s springs led him to top honors in the long jump, triple jump and high jump. In the day’s only other meet, Madrid-Waddington upended Canton 124-112. Aaron Cote logged the only dual win for the Yellow Jackets, capturing the triple jump and 400 meters. Canton’s Damian Abar won the 100, 200 and high jump, as the only three-event winner, while Matt Pierce topped the 1600 and 800 races.
