POTSDAM TOPS GOUVERNEUR TO END SEASON 4-12, WILDCATS 0-16

The Sandstoners swept the Wildcats 25-18, 25-14 and 25-13 in an East Division encounter.  Potsdam was led by Katie Phalen's 11 points and six aces, while Ashley Marshall contributed seven points in the vicotry.
 

OGDENSBURG DELIVERS FIRST DIVISION LOSS TO MASSENA 3-2


Massena's Jowell Smoke-Ramirez (11) and Ruth Kazulak (13) reach high to block a spike from Ogdensburg's Elissa St. Germain (23).   Kazulak contributed 19 service points, 7 aces, and two blocks. The Red Raiders lost their first divisional game of the season in a 3-2 battle  at home against Ogdensburg.  The Raiders were dressed in pink jerseys for the match as part of the Volley For a Cure challenge against breast cancer.

Ogdensburg snapped up the first two wins of the hard-fought match 25-22 and 25-19, then Massena bounced back to 25-17 and 25-18, but then ran out of gas.  O.F.A. won the ultimate game 25-15.  For Ogdensburg, Audrey Badlam paced the Devils with 18 points and ten aces.  Genna Ransom had 52 sets, 12 kills and 15 service points and Megan Shirley notched 14 service points for the Raiders.
 

CHATEAUGAY CLAIMS EAST DIVISION TITLE, BEATING MALONE IN SWEEP

CHATEAUGAY COLLECTS 14TH WIN IN ROW WITH 3-0 WIN VS. M-W JACKETS

OGDENSBURG SURPRISES MALONE IN 3-2 INTERDIVISIONAL VICTORY

Malone’s Hillary Boyea (3) reaches up to set the ball up for a spike for a teammate.  Ogdensburg had to climb back from a
1-0 deficit to claw for extended wins in games two and three, winning 30-28 and 28-26.  Malone regained a 2-2 tie in game 4 with a convincing 25-11 win.  The Blue Devils outlasted the Huskies 25-18 in Game 5 of the marathon.

Salmon River’s Elyse Lauzon (3) dives for the ball near the net but was unable to get to it.  Genna Ransom led Massena with 10 service points, five aces and seven kills in the win.  Ronee Cree delivered nine points and four aces.  The Shamrocks were led by Rachel Benedict's nine points.  Loran had two aces and eight points for the Rocks (2-4, 4-6 overall).

Lottie led Canton with ten kills and five points.  Abbey Shoen collected 16 points with seven aces to lead the Yellow Jacket triumph 25-13, 19-25, 25-16, 25-15.  Kristin King also added 31 sets, 14 assists and seven points.
 

DESPITE CLOSE MATCHES, B-M PANTHERS DEFEAT CANTON 3-0

CHATEAUGAY DOMINATES MALONE IN GAME OF UNDEFEATEDS, 3-0

Malone's Alyssa Farmer (8) reaches with both hands to tip the ball past the blocking attempt of Chateaugay's Stephanie Kemp (5).  Farmer had nine kills to lead the Huskies.  However, Annie Smith was the frontline powerhouse that slammed 20 points, including 10 straight to polish off Game 2 for Chateaugay.  Maggie Trombly served 12 straight points to finish off Game 1 for the Bulldogs who improved to 4-0, 7-0 overall.
 

SALMON RIVER WINS 4TH IN A ROW BEATING GOUVERNEUR IN SWEEP

MALONE SHUTS OUT EDWARDS-KNOX IN VOLLEYBALL SWEEP 3-0

O.F.A. BLUE DEVILS BOUNCE BACK TO BE SURGING SANDSTONERS 3-2

The Ogdensburg Blue Devils bounced back from a 2-1 deficit, winning the fourth and fifth games of the match, in a dramatic 3-2 win over the Potsdam Sandstoners in an interdivisional game. The match was the lone volleyball contest on Monday in Section X.  The Blue Devils won the first game 25-20, but Potsdam held on for a 26-24 win in Game 2. The Sandstoners took a 2-1 edge by outlasting O.F.A. 25-20 in Game 3. But Jenna King with 18 points and nine aces and Aubrey Badlam with 17 points and 14 aces, led the way in guiding the Devils to wins of 25-20 and 25-17 in the final two games. Ogdensburg improved to 2-5 overall. Potsdam, led by Katie Phalen’s 20 points, fell to 1-6 overall.
 

CHATEAUGAY BLANKS EDWARDS-KNOX 3-0 TO STAY UNBEATEN


Edwards-Knox gets a block and a point at the net over the Chateaugay defense, including Annie Smith (9).  Chateaugay continued to dominate the competition in Section X with another three game sweep, this time at the expense of the Edwards-Knox Cougars. Smith rocketed 23 straight service points in the opening game to power the Bulldogs to a 25-2 win.  She finished two 24 points and 17 aces.  The maroon-and-white then romped 25-3 and 25-8 to grab and easy win in a match that lasted just 37 minutes. Stephanie Kemp (5) and Erika LaBombard (17) defend for the Bulldogs on the spike.  The Bulldogs also received contributions from Cindy Harrigan with 16 points and Danielle Swanston with eight kills.  As Chateaugay improved to 5-0 on the season, the Edwards-Knox Cougars dropped to 1-4 overall.

Massena’s Genna Ransom (23) gets the over-the-head bump across the net and the Red Raiders win the point.  Ransom dealt 13 assists, 12 aces, 15 serves and six kills.  Massena bested Malone 3-1 in the match, winning three straight 25-23, 25-16 and 25-12, after losing the opener 11-25.

SALMON RIVER SURPRISES O.F.A. WITH SURGES IN GAMES 3 & 4 TO WIN

B-M PANTHERS SWEEP TUPPER LAKE JACKS, DESPITE STIFF CHALLENGE

CHATEAUGAY SWEEPS VARSITY & J-V CHAMPIONSHIPS IN NCSN SPIKEOFF


Chateaugay swept both the varsity and JV brackets in the 2008 North Country SportsNet Preseason Spikeoff at Massena on Friday.  Chateaugay's Annie Smith spikes the ball at the net for a point for the varsity Bulldogs in the final vs. Ogdensburg.  Smith, Danielle Swanston and Cindy Harrigan were named to the NCSN Spikeoff All-Tournament Team, along with O.F.A.'s Aubrie Badlam and Jenna King, Massena's Genna Ransom and Madrid-Waddington's Abby Shoen.(LaRue photo) Photo Gallery

Ogdensburg narrowly defeated Massena in the semifinals of the Varsity competition in the one-day tournament.

Madrid-Waddington claimed second place in the JV
tournament and fourth place in the Varsity competition.

 Ogdensburg battled its way back to gain a semifinal berth with a tiebreaker win over Salmon River.  After a 25-7 loss in the first game of the championship, the Blue Devils battled 14-14, before succumbing to the Bulldogs' tough game at the net in a 25-16 setback.

CANTON TOPS EDWARDS-KNOX IN THREE GAMES SWEEP IN OPENER

Despite their efforts, the Cougars struggled for points in the opening game, falling 25-4 and never seemed to recover.  Edwards-Knox fell to 0-1 to open the season.
 

CHATEAUGAY OPENS WITH SWEEP OF POTSDAM SANDSTONERS 3-0
