RANDOLPH (VI) 2, CHATEAUGAY (X) 0
CHATEAUGAY (X) 2, SHELTER ISLAND (XI) 0

In the first visit of any Section X volleyball team to the New York State Final Four in Glens Falls, Chateaugay Bulldogs battled to a 2-0 sweep of Shelter Island (Section XI) in the third match of a Round Robin semifinal playoff in the State’s Class D bracket. However, the win salvaged just one of three matches on the day, giving the Bulldogs third place among the four semifinalists for the state title. The Lady Bulldogs failed to get on track against defending champion Haldane in the first contest. In short best- of-three mini match when it’s important to grab an early lead, the Blue Devils pounced on the Bulldogs 25- 7 in the first game, then went on an 18-point run in game 2 to seal a 25-8 victory. Chateaugay faired better to start the second match vs. Randolph, getting a small early lead. But again, experience of the opponent in state play proved to be too much in 25-11 and 25-12 losses. But in an exciting nightcap, it was Chateaugay who jumped to the early lead, capturing the first game 25-16, then in a seesaw affair, held on to win the second game 25-19, for the third-place finish.
