GOUVERNEUR STILL UNBEATEN IN LEAGUE, BEATING O.F.A.

The Gouverneur Wildcats kept their unbeaten season intact with several quick pins in beating Ogdensburg wrestlers 40-22. Carson Gates, Bobby Bell and Darren and Kevin Fuller all won matches in less than a minute.  Dylan Morris also had a pin.

Ogdensburg got pins from Nevin Parish (160) and Kris Folsom (189).  Ogdensburg fell to 1-3, 3-6 overall.  Gouverneur improved to 4-0, 5-3 overall.
 

GOUVERNEUR, CLIFTON-FINE & OGDENSBURG POST WINS

GOUVERNEUR 43, CANTON-POTSDAM 24
The Gouverneur Wildcats remained as the only undefeated wrestling squad in Section X (2-0) in wrapping up six pins and defeating Canton-Potsdam 43-24. Skyler Way, Darren and Austin Fuller, Dylan Morrison, Gates and Zach Cummings all registered pins to lead the Cats. Canton-Potsdam (1-1) collected pins from Shawn Brown, Robert Dargie and Brendan Kelly.

CLIFTON-FINE 39, MASSENA 30
Clifton-Fine’s 120-pound contender Jack Demmon logged a pin at 1:21 of the first period, defeating Massena’s Dan Shirley and the Eagles capitalized on five forfeits in dropping the Red Raiders 39-30 in Star Lake. Massena’s Cody Cook and Robert Rochefort turned their opponents to the mat with pins, but the Raiders fell to 0-2 on the season. Clifton-Fine improved to 1-1 on the regular season and 2-5 overall.

OGDENSBURG 39, MALONE 33
The luck of the draw to determine the order of the matches worked in Ogdensburg’s favor as the Blue Devils built a big lead with four pins and five wins, then hung on to defeat Malone 39-33. Liam and Andy Rickett, Mike Crowley, Nevin Parish and Eathan Bonewell scored pins for O.F.A. (1-1). Cody James, Dan Tower and Sam Desnoyers sealed pins for Malone (1-2).

Trevor Jerome, Curt Barney, Eb Foote, Nick Butler, Rob Dargie and Brendon Kelly registered pins as Canton-Potsdam Bears dropped the Red Raiders 51-22  in the season opener. 

Drew Gayeski and Roland Patnode posted pins for the Massena Red Raiders who dropped the season opener on the road.
 

WILDCATS SEEK TO DEFEND TITLE: OPEN BEATING MALONE

Darren Fullum of Malone wrestles Kevin Fuller of Gouverneur in the 140-pound weight class. Fullum won the match 11-3.

Gouverneur's Austin Fuller rocks and pins Malone's Ryan Spinner in the 119-pound class.  Fuller was up 9-4 at the time. 
 

MALONE GRAPPLERS WIN FINAL MATCH TO WIN VS. EAGLES

The Malone Huskies won only their second meet in nearly five years, defeating Clifton-Fine 33-30 in a thriller on Wednesday.  The Huskies trailed by three points going into the final bout in the lightest weight class, 96 pounds.  Ryan Jacques got a pin to win the meet.  (Kyle Coryea photo)  Meet Gallery

Brandon Szkotak and Dan Tower each contributed a pin for the Huskies win.  Clifton-Fine's 30 points all came on pins from John EIbert, Justin Jones, Cole Tristram, Jacob Demmon and Justin Lashway.  The Huskies improved to 1-1, while Clifton-Fine lost in their season opener and fell to 0-1.
 

GOUVERNEUR RECAPTURES SEASON CROWN IN TWO WINS

Gouverneur’s Kyle Bigwarfe pulls on the arm of Clifton-Fine’s Gary Jessmer and would turn him over for a pin just 0:28 into the first period.  Bigwarfe had the only pin of the meet vs. Clifton-Fine. Clifton-Fine’s Justin Jones has a grasp on Gouverneur’s Zach Cummings but would lose the match as Cummings got the win 11-5.  Gouverneur also won their meet over Massena with Cummings, Austin and Duane Fuller, Duane Roberts and Kyle Bigwarfe with wins.  Massena was led by pins from Michael Perry and Drew Gayeskie.
 

CANTON-POTSDAM GRAPPLERS DOMINATE OGDENSBURG 40-18

Canton-Potsdam’s Shawn Brown leaps to get on the top of Ogdensburg’s Jacob Snover and would get the pin 0:52 into the first period.  Brown and Eb Foote logged the only pins for Canton-Potsdam, but it was enough to beat Ogdensburg 40-18.

Canton’s Curtis Barney got two points to tie the score at 8-8 at the buzzer against Ogdensburg’s Andy Rickett.  Barney went on to win the match by scoring the first point in overtime.  Todd Tyo, Josh Heaton and Zach Sweeney each collected six-point wins to account for all of Ogdensburg's scoring.
 

BLUE DEVILS OUT-PIN MASSENA IN DUMPING RAIDERS 38-27

Ogdensburg’s Jacob Snover wraps up Massena’s Steven LaClair iin a close match. Snover won by a slim 7-5 margin.  Ogdensburg improved to 4-3, 6-6 overall.  Massena fell to 4-4.
 

CANTON-POTSDAM MUSCLES PAST MALONE GRAPPLERS

Canton-Potsdam's Trevor Jerome, Kevin Allott and Cody Cleveland each muscled their opponents into pins to propel the Bears (2-3) to a 46-15 win over the Malone Huskies.  Dan Tower and Ryan Spinner clinched pins for the Huskies (1-6).

PERRY CAPTURES FINAL WIN: MASSENA UPSETS WILDCATS

In the last bout with the score tied 28-28, Massena's Isaiah Perry (103 pound class) gets a hero's celebration after coming back and pinning Gouverneur's Skyler Way at 3:59 of the match to give the Red Raiders their first win over the Wildcats in 13 years.  Only an 8th grader, Perry said afterward the win was also for his older brother Michael, a senior (seen lifting him and who also won his match) because they had never beaten the Wildcats during the years he had competed.  Ironically, Skylar Way also had the last bout of the night 24 hours earlier and had posted the win to be the hero in Gouverneur's 37-35 win over Canton-Potsdam.  (Bob LaRue photo)  Match Gallery

Massena's Sawyer Clauson gets a stronghold on Gouverneur's Carson Gates, but the Wildcat escapes with late points to pull off a 9-7 victory and three team points for Gouverneur (5-1).

Shane Gould of Massena locks a half nelson on Gouverneur's Tom Macumber in the 145-pound match.  Also snagging key pins for Massena were Robert Rochefort and Adam Malone.  The Wildcats' pins also came from Dylan Morrison, Zach Cummings and Darren Fuller. Massena improved to 3-3.
 

MASSENA DOMINATES MALONE IN POSTING 54-13 VICTORY

Massena's Abe Francis turns Malone's Brandon Szkotak on his back for key points in a narrow 4-2 victory for the Raider.  Other Massena pins were effected by Steven LaClair (130), Mike Perry (152), Sawyer Clauson (171), Roland Patnode (215) and Drew Gayeski (119).  Massena improved to 4-3.

Massena's Nate Rogers gets a headlock on Malone's Darren Fullum in the 135-pound class.  Rogers dominated much of the match, but Fullum gained momentum in the second period to secure the victory at 2:27, the only pin for the Huskies.
 

WILDCATS WINS FINAL 2 BOUTS TO NIP CANTON-POTSDAM 37-35

Canton-Potsdam’s Eb Foote muscles his opponent to escape the grasp of Gouverneur’s Dylan Morrison in the 130-pound match.  Foote polished off Morrison in a 17-1 technical fall.  In other bouts, Shawn Brown, Kurtis Barney, Kevin Allot, Rob Dargie and Brandon Kelley all collected pins for Canton-Potsdam.  Richard Jessmer and Shawn Gould logged pins for Gouverneur.
