POTSDAM THREE-PEATS AS CHAMPIONS; FLYERS SECOND

Potsdam three-repeated as Section X champs with Norwood-Norfolk second and Indian River third. Individual champions included: Potsdam’s Lola Buckley is champion of the shot put, while teammate Lindy Betrus captured the title in the long jump and triple jump. Norwood-Norfolk’s Madison Carista topped the 1500. Indian River’s Mackenzie Adams set a new section record at 10.14 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Salmon River’s Makenna Manson broke her own Section record in the 60-meter dash at 8.04 seconds. She also won the 300 meters. Canton’s Bennett Schmitt took gold in the 3000 run. Malone’s Adyson King captured the 600 meter and 1000 meter runs. Gouverneur’s Audrey Gaines won gold in the high jump. In the relays, Potsdam won the 1600 and 3200, Indian River won the 800. Each of the champions earned the right to compete in the New York State championships the first weekend in March at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex at Staten Island, NY.

POTSDAM, MALONE, CANTON BACK AS TOP 3 IN WEEK #5

Potsdam racked up its fifth-straight top finish with triple-digit scoring, with Malone pulling second place for the fourth time, after relinquishing the position to Indian River last week. The Warriors slipped back to fifth this week, with Canton at third and Gouverneur up from sixth spot to fourth place. Potsdam’s Lindy Betrus captured the long jump and triple jump. Malone’s Grace McClain legged out a win in the 1500 event, while Adyson King took top honors in the 300 and 600 meters. Canton’s Salma Mounmen won the 3000 meters. Norwood-Norfolk’s Allie Snell (PH) claimed the 1000 meter run. Salmon River’s Makenna Manson bested he 60-meter dash. Indian River’s Mackenzie Adams won the 60-meter hurdles and shot put. Gouverneur’s Audrey Gaines took first in the high jump. In the relays, Potsdam topped the 800 and 1600 meters, while Malone won the 3200.

Potsdam won its third straight meet of the season with a commanding margin at night’s finish. The Sandstoners stacked up 125 points, with Malone the runnerup for the third-straight week. Indian River made the biggest jump from sixth place in the first two weeks, to a strong third spot in Week 3. The Warriors bumped Canton to fourth, with Gouverneur remaining fifth. For Potsdam, Ali Grainger ran the fastest 600 and 1000 meters, Lindy Betrus had the farthest long jump and triple jump, while teammate Lola Buckley aced the shot put. Canton’s Stella Shipman was first in the 300 meters and 60-meter hurdles, while Golden Bears teammate Salma Mounmen topped the 3000 meters. Salmon River’s Makenna Manson won the 60-meter dash. Malone’s Tye Lawrence crossed the finish line first in the 1500 meters. In the relays, Malone placed first in the 800 and 3200, while Potsdam won the 1600.

Defending champion Potsdam opened the season with a 10.5 margin of victory over the second-place Flyers to open the season. Canton, Ogdensburg and Malone rounded out the Top Five.  Potsdam’s Lindy Betrus swept both the long jump and triple jump, while Lola Buckley tossed the longest shot put. Canton’s Bennett Schmitt topped the 1500 and 3000 meters, while fellow Golden Bear Stella Shipman won the 60-meter hurdles. Malone’s Adyson King won both the 600 and 100 meters, while Dari Funk captured won the high jump. Salmon River’s Makenna Manson best the 60 meters and 300 meters. In the relays, Gouverneur won the 800, Potsdam topped the 1600 and Malone won the 3200-meter relay.
