GOUVERNEUR REPEATS AS UNbeaten division ii CHAMP

The final at 101 pounds was won by Gouverneur's Tuffy Griffith with a pin over OFA's Beau Friot with just 15 seconds left. At 108, the Wildcats' Kolt Murdie beat Malone's Dan Boileau 15-1, At 116, Malone's Tanner King topped teammate Liam Harte 11-2. At 124, Gouverneur's JD Minckler bested Canton's Cole Clifford 6-2. Gouverneur's Cyler Baer pinned Conner Clifford at 3:43 to be champion at 131. The Wildcats' Ryan Mashaw beat OFA's Astryn Grenier 19-2 to win the 138 lb. class. Turner Sochia beat Cats teammate Hayden Stowell 7-2 to become champ at 145. Gouverneur's Vandavian Way pinned Malone's Jerry LaPage at 1:03 to win the 152 lb title. At 160, Malone's Chase White outlasted Canton's Grahan Rozler 4-1. At 170, Gouverneur's Drew Gates won the title by pinfall in just 18 seconds over Malone's Jonah Garcia. Canton's Charlie Rossner outlasted Gouverneur's Holden Stowell 4-2 to claim the 190 pound title. Canton's Chase Bandy is champion at 215 pounds edging OFA's Marco Scamperle 9-7. And for the 285 title, the Bears' Thi Quelle VanGuilder pinned OFA's Connor Young at 41 seconds.  Gouverneur repeated as Section X champions with 219.5 points, Ogdensburg second at 134, followed closely by Canton 127 and Malone 113.

GOUVERNEUR EDGES AHEAD TO WIN NO. CO. INVITATIONAL


The Gouverneur Wildcats edged to the top of the leaderboard, only 1½ points ahead of host Indian River to win the 17-team annual North Country Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The team was led by Vandavian Way (top middle) who was chosen Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament in the heavyweights class.  Canton wrestlers finished in 7th place, while Ogdensburg placed 15th.  (Photo provided)

 MALONE TAKES DOWN RED RAIDERS IN 54-24 VICTORY


In the 124 weight class, Malone's Tanner King defeated Massena's David Sweet by pinfall in 48 seconds.  At 160 pounds, the Huskies' Chase White took down the Raiders' Colton Henry by pin in 46 seconds.   At 170, Malone's Jonah Garcia completed the pin of Massena's Vincent Monacelli at 2:31 of  the third round.   In the 190-pound bout, the Huskies' Wyatt King outscored the Raiders' Wade Adams 3-0.  At 215 pounds, Malone's Brock St. Louis flips and slams Massena's Jordan Weir, then quickly goes on to pin Weir at the 55-second mark.  Malone went on to defeat Massena 54-24. GOUVERNEUR REPEATS AS UNDEFEATED SEASON CHAMPS


Gouverneur’s Cyler Baer won via pinfall over Ogdensburg’s Jack Hunter in just 25 seconds.  The Wildcats beat a Blue Devils team depleted by injuries, sickness and the the after-effects of previous day's lockdown 68-6.  Gouverneur finished another undefeated regular season.  (LaRue photo)
 

At 190 pounds, the Wildcats’ Drew Gates pinned OFA’s Larry Young at 52 seconds. At 215, Gouverneur’s Holden Stowell won by Tech Fall 16-0 over OFA’s Roman Cooksey. In the 285 class, OFA’s Connor Young pinned Gouverneur’s Morris Wing at 42 seconds. At 101, the Wildcats Tuffy Minckler defeated Ogdensburg’s Beau Friot 8-0. For the 124 match, the Cats’ JD Minckler won by technical fall 16-0 over Blue Devils’ Braxton Kendall. At131 pounds, Gouverneur’s Cyler Baer won via pinfall over OFA’s Jack Hunter at 25 seconds. In the 138 clasas. Gouverneur’s Ryan Mashaw pinned Tavion Richardson at 1:25. And in a seesaw finish at 145 pounds, Gouverneur’s Hayden Stowell won by pin over Collin Brenno at 5:15. Both wrestlers had the chance to close out pins earlier in the bout. The Wildcats beat Blue Devils 68-6.

GOUVERNEUR'S ZOE GRIFFITH WINS STATE TITLE at 138 LBS.


NEW YORK STATE CHAMPION! Gouverneur wrestler Zoey Griffith, a junior, climbed to the top of the 138-pound bracket and the top of the platform in the girls state invitational wrestling tournament. Griffith is also wearing the NYSPHAA gold medal for her accomplishment, going an unblemished 4-0 for the weekend.  (Photos provided)

Griffith beat Shenendehowa’s Ava Guilmette 6-0 in the final bout for the state title. Griffith’s other wins included pinfalls over Jenna Comer of Corning in just 26 seconds, then Avery White of Frontier and Talulah Williams-Johnson of East Rochester, both in just 45 seconds each.

Moving to 170, Gouverneur’s Drew Gates beats Canton’s Graham Rozler 20-5. At 190 pounds, Wildcats’ Holden Stowell wins 7-3 over Charlie Rossner. In the 215 pound class, Hannah Sochia beats Chase Bandy with a pin at 1:49. At 285, Canton’s Thi QuelleVanGuilder beat Gouverneur’s Morris Wing at 19 seconds. At 124 pounds, Bears’ Cole Clifford wins 11-1 over Gouverneur’s Mason Dusharm. The 131 bout: the Wildcats’ JD Minckler pinned Connor Clifford at 5:08. At 138, Gouverneur’s Cyler Baer pinned Canton’s John Gidney at 3:06. At 145, Gouverneur’s Ryan Mashaw pinned Canton’s Aiden Bartholomew in 45 seconds. Gouverneur outdueled Canton 51-16.

At 170 pounds, Canton's Graham Rozler pinned Massena's Vincent Monacelli at 1:22.  At 190, Canton's Charlie Rossner pinned Massena's Jordan Weir at 1:08. The big boys at 285, Canton's Landon Weng pinned Massena's Darrien Coates ## at 3:24.  In the 124 weight class, Canton's Kaeden Locy pinned Massena's Davon Swett at 3:39.  At 131, the Bears' Cole Clifford by tech fall over the Raiders Kevin Woodcock 15-0.  At 145, Massena's Silver secured a pin, rallying from behind Canton' John Gidney in the third round.  At 152, Massena's Nolan Jensen won by pinfall over Canton's Joel Allen at 2:25.  And at 160, the Raiders' Cameron Wolcott pinned the Bears' Colden Schwartz at 2:47. Canton out-grappled Massena 41-18.
